In this book, we investigate the problem of simulating clothes and clothing. A range of topics are addressed, from shape modeling of a piece of cloth to the realistic garments on virtual humans. Different situations demand different properties a cloth. Existing solutions, though useful for many applications, reveal that further improvements are required. Cloth modeling has been a topic of research in the textile mechanics and engineering communities for a very long time. However, in the mid 1980s, researchers in computer graphics also became interested in modeling cloth in order to include it in the 3D computer generated images and films. The evolution of cloth modeling and garment simulation in computer graphics indicates that it has grown from basic shape modeling to the modeling of its complex physics and behaviors. Chapter 2 provides a summary of the different methods developed in computer graphics over the last 15 to 20 years. In computer graphics, only the macroscopic properties of the cloth surface are considered. Physical accuracy is given less importance in comparison to the visual realism. However, a trend of employing a multi disciplinary approach has started, and the community of textile engineering and computer graphics have begun to combine their expertise to come up with solutions that can satisfy that of both communities.

Digitalisation is becoming a standard practice in the fashion industry. Innovation in digital fashion is not just limited to computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing (CAM), rather it runs throughout the fashion supply chain, from product life cycle management and developing new business models that promote sustainability to connecting virtual and augmenting reality (VR/AR) with fashion for enhanced consumers experience through smart solutions. Digital Fashion Innovations: Advances in Design, Simulation, and Industry captures the state-of-art developments taking place in this multi-disciplinary field: Discusses digital fashion design and e-prototyping, including 2D/3D CAD, digital pattern cutting, virtual drape simulation and fit analysis. Covers digital human modelling and VR/AR technology. Details digital fashion business and promotion, including application of e-tools for supply chain, e-commerce, block chain technologies, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI). This interdisciplinary book will appeal to professionals working in textile and fashion technology, those developing AR and AI for clothing end uses, and anyone interested in the business of digital fashion and textile design. It will also be of interest to scientists and engineers working in anthropometry for a variety of disciplines, such as medical devices and ergonomics.

This book presents the mass manufacturing and manifestation of smart clothes that have decisively kick-started the fashion industry With the flourishing of edge and digitization technologies, every tangible thing in and around us is all set to become digitized. The arrival of advanced communication and digitalization technologies has made any digitized entity to be connected and cognitive. With this transition, the textile industry is strategizing to leverage the improvisations being accomplished in the digital era to design, develop, and deliver digitally enabled dresses and clothes. Smart attires are fabrics bedded with ultrathin, flexible and transparent detectors, selectors, electronics, and connectivity, and there are nano-creators to power smart dresses. The mass manufacturing and manifestation of smart clothes have decisively kick-started the fashion industry. The readers will come across the implementation technologies and the research results of virtual try-on, body size and pose estimation, diffusion-based fashion synthesis, etc.

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1.0, Thames Valley University, London, language: English, abstract: This dissertation is a study in the area of e-commerce. The aim of this study was to examine the adoption of online shopping and online shopping for clothing in particular and factors influencing the intention to purchase clothing online. A quantitative research method was used and a questionnaire designed on the website www.surveymonkey.com and then distributed by sending out the link leading to the survey via facebook and emails. 94 useful questionnaires were gathered from female and male UK students. SPSS 17 was used to analyse the collected data by conducting chi-square tests and Spearman’s rho correlation tests to examine the relation between different variables. The constructs of the technology acceptance model (TAM) were used as a framework and basis for this research and were extended by further constructs. Therefore, the impact of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, prior online shopping experience, perceived risk and product involvement on the intention to purchase clothing online was analysed. Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and prior online shopping experience had positive effects on the intention to purchase clothing online. Perceived risk had a negative effect on the intention to purchase clothing online. These findings supported the hypotheses. Other than hypothesised, clothing product involvement did not have a significant positive effect on the intention to purchase clothing online.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: B, The University of Liverpool, language: English, abstract: This term paper presents an information systems strategy using the fictitious example of Inked Apparel. Inked Apparel is a custom clothing manufacturer and retailer; it is primarily situated in two sectors of trading, which is providing a service to its customer by creating a t-shirt of their desire and eventually retailing the produced clothing online as well as at local market stalls. Inked Apparel is a small business that will create custom T-shirts, Polo’s and Hoodies with the choice of customer’s preference of images, which can be then created by Ink’s design team. These designs can be printed on the back or front as well as both sides of the clothing. Customers request through a form which is available on Ink’s website and can be printed in paper form. Once the apparel has been created the company sells it to the customer at an agreed price set beforehand. In addition, a market stall is used to help sell generalised merchandise created by the artists for tourists and citizens such as ‘I heart London’ shirts.
