Abstract: Among other reasons, people adopt vegetarian diets is to lose weight, to avoid the taste of meat, or to get closer to God. In sorting out reasons for becoming a vegetarian, the author cites three issues that vegetarians generally fall back on : nutrition, ecology, ethics. The arguments for a vegetarian diet are: it is healthier than a meat-oriented diet; it does not involve animal suffering; and it makes more efficient use of natural resources. Because their are so many types of vegetarians, a concise definition is difficult. To attempt this, the author presents all the arguments about vegetarianism based on: nutrition, medicine, ecology, agriculture, literature, sociology, philosophy, history, and religion, In addition to an extensive bibliography, numerous tables and figures are included.

Judaism And Vegetarianism written by Richard H. Schwartz and has been published by Lantern Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Health & Fitness categories.

From God's first injunction, "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for food." (Gen. 1:29) The Hebrew Bible offers countless examples of how God intends a compassionate and caring attitude toward animals, our health, and the health of the planet. This attitude, as Richard Schwartz shows in his pioneering work now fully revised, has been a constant theme throughout Judaism to the present day. Indeed, Judaism's particular concern for tikkun olam, a healing of the world, has never been more urgent today--given the current state of world hunger, environmental degradation, and the horror of factory farms. Dr. Schwartz shows not only how Judaism is particularly well suited to solving these problems, but how doing so can revitalize one's Jewish faith.

This book is laid out to be a 40 day meditation. This work is a meditation for people to ponder on the Truths of Scripture as Jesus and Mary meditated on the mysteries of Yahweh! This work brings forth biblically based teachings that were alive and strong in biblical times. The first 20 meditations are about Biblical Nutrition. The last 20 come from the scientific aspects of a plant-based diet. The evidence from the scriptures, the early Church period, the Jewish literature, the mystics, and nutrition indicates that Jesus and Mary were kosher, and also that they were vegetarian. The author Jim has related books: Biblical Fasting; Jesus and Mary were Kosher Vegetarians, the Evidence from the Bible, the Early Church and Nutrition; Juice Fasting; and Living Green with Juices, Smoothies and Salads; which are part of this meditation.

The Alchemy Of Illness written by Kat Duff and has been published by Pantheon this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Health & Fitness categories.

Illness is a universal experience. There is no privilege that can make us immune to its touch. We are taught to assume health, illnesses being just temporary breakdowns in the well-oiled machinery of the body. But illness has its own geography, its own laws and commandments. At a time when the attention of the whole nation is focused on health care, Kat Duff inquires into the nature and function of illness itself. Duff, a counselor in private practice in Taos, New Mexico, wrote this book out of her experience with chronic fatigue syndrome, but what she has to say is applicable to every illness and every one of us. For those who are sick, this book offers solace and recognition. For those who care for them either physically or emotionally, it offers inspiration and compassion. Finally, this fresh perspective on healing reveals how every illness is a crucible that tries our mettle, tests our limits, and provides us with an unparalleled opportunity to integrate its lessons into our lives.

Philosophy has often been criticized for privileging the abstract; this volume attempts to remedy that situation. Focusing on one of the most concrete of human concerns, food, the editors argue for the existence of a philosophy of food. The collection provides various approaches to the subject matter, offering new readings of a number of texts—religious, philosophical, anthropological, culinary, poetic, and economic. Included are readings ranging from Plato's Phaedo and Verses of Sen-No-Rikyu to Peter Singer's "Becoming a Vegetarian" and Jean-François Revel's Culture and Cuisine. This reader will have particular appeal for philosophers working in social theory, feminist theory, and environmental ethics, and for those working on alternative approaches to such traditional subject areas as epistemology, aesthetics, and metaphysics.
