The purpose of this meta study is to discover the benefits of using technology in mathematics classrooms to increase student learning. Technology is evolving and expanding every day. The students of today are "digital natives", they grow up in a world surrounded by technology. Research has proven that technology is beneficial for students. Students are excited and eager to use technology in the classroom. Interactive whiteboards increase student motivation and engagement. Mobile gaming can be used to create an individualized learning environment. It allows students to take control of their learning by selecting their own learning path based on their prior knowledge. This in turn leads to a meaningful learning experience. DLO improve student learning outcomes because they promote collaboration and enhance active learning. Many teachers are "digital immigrant", they did not grow up in a world surrounded by technology. Therefore they are constantly learning and adapting to these advances. In order to meet the needs of 21st century learners, teachers must encourage decision making among students, involve students in designing instruction, and get input from students about how they should teach. The CCSS and ISTE standards provide teachers with a guide. Many teachers are beginning to implement technology into their lessons. However, many teachers remain stuck in the past. These teachers need an extra "push." There's so much technology out there that it can be overwhelming to a "digital immigrant." Without the proper understanding of technology teachers are unable to incorporate it into their classroom. Professional development must be provided to these teachers in order to educate them. Before teachers can prepare their students for the technological world we now live in, they need to be educated on how to use the technology that now takes over the classroom.
