This book includes recommendations prepared by members of the French Society for Trenchless Technology (FSTT), based on their recent national multi-year project. Comprehensive guidelines, techniques and theories in the areas of both microtunneling and horizontal drilling are given, encompassing the fields of application for each method, what investigations should be undertaken, which machines and equipment should be used, how the work should be managed and potential problems that may arise. The recommendations, the analytical methods used and their verification with laboratory and field data should not only improve the rate of success of trenchless projects, but will also be of great value to engineers in other countries, who can compare the results with their own findings and assess the international state of the art.

Trenchless or no-dig technologies are those which enable utilities such as watermains, sewers, and cables to be installed, repaired, or renovated without the need to excavate a trench. This document is an introductory guide to some of the available trenchless technologies specifically designed for non-man-entry sized pipelines and utilities (i.e. under 0.8 meters in diameter). Each section of the guide contains a summary description of the technology and its applications, accompanied by reproductions of commercial literature from manufacturers and service providers of trenchless technologies. The technologies reviewed include hydro-cleaning, resin repairs, sliplining, sprayed cement mortar lining, inverted polyester lining, renewal by pipe-bursting, renewal by pipe replacement using microtunneling, directional boring systems, and microtunnelling systems.

These guidelines mark the completion of the Construction Productivity Advancement Research (CPAR) project 'Trenchless Construction: Evaluation of Methods and Materials to Install and Rehabilitate Underground Utilities.' CPAR is a cost-shared U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and construction industry research program. This 3-year project was conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station and the Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University. The overall objective of this study was to develop guidelines that owners, engineers, and contractors could use to evaluate and select appropriate trenchless methods and equipment for their project requirements and site conditions. The guidelines focus on the three major elements of trenchless technology investigated in this study: rehabilitation of existing pipelines using cured-in-place (CIPP) and fold-and-formed pipe (FFP) methods, installation of small-diameter (2- to 10-in.) pipe lines using mini-horizontal directional drilling (mini-HDD) and installation of larger diameter pipelines using microtunneling. The guidelines are based primarily on the results of extensive laboratory and field investigations. (MM).

Nastt S Pipe Jacking Good Practices Guidelines written by North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-15 with categories.
This Pipe Jacking publication is presented by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT), a non-profit educational organization. The published work serves as a companion document to a portion of "NASTT's New Installations Good Practices Training Course" and is intended to provide contractors, engineers, and utility owners with an overview of the many benefits of this widely practiced trenchless method. Pipe jacking is defined as a cyclical process of simultaneously excavating the ground, removing the spoils, and advancing pipe segments to support the excavation. Pipe jacking is the mechanism to propel the pipe and machine in both open shield pipe jacking machines and microtunnel boring machines (MTBM). Advancing of pipe segments is achieved using a jacking frame fitted with high-capacity hydraulic jacks that push the pipe from the launch shaft. The jacking frame applies thrust to the jacking pipe and excavating face (shield or MTBM) simultaneously. The actual setup of a jacking frame can vary considerably, depending on the contractor's equipment and the size of the jacking shaft. All NASTT publications are peer reviewed by volunteer industry professionals to ensure that they offer generic and non-commercial information. This publication was funded solely by NASTT as part of our educational outreach programing. Since 1990, the all-volunteer members of NASTT have presented non-commercial information about green alternative engineering methods to North American communities and beyond. NASTT offers multiple, high quality trenchless courses each year throughout North America and at our annual NASTT No-Dig Show Conference and Exhibition.
