These guidelines mark the completion of the Construction Productivity Advancement Research (CPAR) project 'Trenchless Construction: Evaluation of Methods and Materials to Install and Rehabilitate Underground Utilities.' CPAR is a cost-shared U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and construction industry research program. This 3-year project was conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station and the Trenchless Technology Center at Louisiana Tech University. The overall objective of this study was to develop guidelines that owners, engineers, and contractors could use to evaluate and select appropriate trenchless methods and equipment for their project requirements and site conditions. The guidelines focus on the three major elements of trenchless technology investigated in this study: rehabilitation of existing pipelines using cured-in-place (CIPP) and fold-and-formed pipe (FFP) methods, installation of small-diameter (2- to 10-in.) pipe lines using mini-horizontal directional drilling (mini-HDD) and installation of larger diameter pipelines using microtunneling. The guidelines are based primarily on the results of extensive laboratory and field investigations. (MM).

Everything you need to design...install... replace and rehabilitate buried pipe systems Put a single-volume treasury of underground piping solutions at your command! A one-of-a kind resource, Buried Pipe Design, Second Edition, identifies and explains every factor you must know to work competently and confidently with the subsurface infrastructure of distribution systems, including sewer lines, drain lines, water mains, gas lines, telephone and electrical conduits, culverts, oil lines, coal slurry lines, subway tunnels and heat distribution lines. Within the pages of this acclaimed professional tool you’ll find space-age remedies for the aging, deteriorating piping beneath America’s cities -- and learn how to design long-lived systems capable of delivering vital services and meeting new demands. This comprehensive, state-of-the-art resource shows you how to: * Determine loads on buried pipes * Understand pipe hydraulics * Choose an installation design for buried gravity flow pipes * Design for both rigid pipe and flexible pipe * Select appropriate pipe for your application based on material properties * Work within safety guidelines * Handle soil issues, including pipe embedment and backfill * Employ the powerful tool of finite element analysis (FEA) * Adhere to current standards of the AWWA, ASTM, and other relevant standards organization * Save time with actual design examples * More! This thorough update of A. P. Moser's classic guide is now twice the size of the previous edition -- reflecting the vast progress and changes in the field in mere decade! You’ll find enormous amounts of all-new material, including: *External Loads chapter: minimum soil cover, with a discussion of similitude; soil subsidence; load due to temperature rise; seismic loads; and flotation *Design of Gravity Flow Pipes chapter: compaction techniques; E’ analysis; parallel pipes and trenches; and analytical methods for predicting performance of buried flexible pipes Design of Pressure Pipes chapter: corrected theory for cyclic life of PVC pipe...strains induced by combined loading in buried pressurized flexible pipe Rigid Pipe Products chapter: the direct method...design strengths for concrete pipe...and SPIDA (Soil-Pipe Interaction Design and Analysis) *Steel and Ductile Iron Flexible Pipe Products chapter: three-dimensional FEA modeling of a corrugated steel pipe arch...tests on spiral ribbed steel pipe, low-stiffness ribbed steel pipe, and ductile iron pipe *Plastic Flexible Pipe Products chapter: long-term stress relaxation and strain testing of PVC pipes...frozen-in stresses...cyclic pressures and elevated temperatures...the AWWA study on the use of PVC...long-term ductility of PE...the ESCR and NCTL tests for PE...and full-scale testing of HDPE profile-wall pipes *Entirely new chapter! You get new information on pipe handling and trenching as well as safety issues. Here are valuable directions for working with fast-growing trenchless methods for installing and rehabilitating pipelines PLUS: * MORE design examples * THE LATEST ASTM, AWWA, ASHTTO, and TRB standards * NEW DATA ON CUTTING-EDGE PIPE MATERIALS, including profile-wall polyethylene

Nastt S Pipe Jacking Good Practices Guidelines written by North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-15 with categories.

This Pipe Jacking publication is presented by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT), a non-profit educational organization. The published work serves as a companion document to a portion of "NASTT's New Installations Good Practices Training Course" and is intended to provide contractors, engineers, and utility owners with an overview of the many benefits of this widely practiced trenchless method. Pipe jacking is defined as a cyclical process of simultaneously excavating the ground, removing the spoils, and advancing pipe segments to support the excavation. Pipe jacking is the mechanism to propel the pipe and machine in both open shield pipe jacking machines and microtunnel boring machines (MTBM). Advancing of pipe segments is achieved using a jacking frame fitted with high-capacity hydraulic jacks that push the pipe from the launch shaft. The jacking frame applies thrust to the jacking pipe and excavating face (shield or MTBM) simultaneously. The actual setup of a jacking frame can vary considerably, depending on the contractor's equipment and the size of the jacking shaft. All NASTT publications are peer reviewed by volunteer industry professionals to ensure that they offer generic and non-commercial information. This publication was funded solely by NASTT as part of our educational outreach programing. Since 1990, the all-volunteer members of NASTT have presented non-commercial information about green alternative engineering methods to North American communities and beyond. NASTT offers multiple, high quality trenchless courses each year throughout North America and at our annual NASTT No-Dig Show Conference and Exhibition. Microtunneling And Horizontal Drilling written by French Society for Trenchless Technology (FSTT) and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book includes recommendations prepared by members of the French Society for Trenchless Technology (FSTT), based on their recent national multi-year project. Comprehensive guidelines, techniques and theories in the areas of both microtunneling and horizontal drilling are given, encompassing the fields of application for each method, what investigations should be undertaken, which machines and equipment should be used, how the work should be managed and potential problems that may arise. The recommendations, the analytical methods used and their verification with laboratory and field data should not only improve the rate of success of trenchless projects, but will also be of great value to engineers in other countries, who can compare the results with their own findings and assess the international state of the art.
