Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Didactics - E-Learning, grade: 10, University of Macedonia, language: English, abstract: This study investigates the second generation of the World Wide Web, called Web 2.0. The revolution of Web 2.0 over Web 1.0 was that it allowed Internet users not to be passive recipients. who simply read the digital content of a web page, but enabled them to add digital content, share information, and collaborate online. The blast of Web 2.0 is therefore largely based on the electronic sharing of knowledge and information. In this paper the basic features of Web 2.0, its basic services, functions and tools will be firstly described. Next, concepts such as social networking services and social networks will be analyzed and the application of Web 2.0 in education, as well as the benefits it can bring will be studied. In conclusion, a summary of the possibilities of Web 2.0 is made and the advantages, disadvantages and its role in the educational process are presented through a critical point of view. One of the major differences between Web 2.0 and the traditional World Wide Web is the greater collaboration between Internet users and other users such as digital service providers and businesses. While Web 1.0 was software organized around pages, technologies, and businesses, Web 2.0 was organized around ordinary people and services. In the Web 1.0 era, internet users had the ability to read the digital content of a web page but could not create their own since the only person who could update the web page content was its webmaster. In other words, we would say that Web 1.0 was not oriented towards the creation of digital content by internet users.

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,7, Humboldt-University of Berlin, language: English, abstract: The internet is one of the newest communication technologies and has run through fundamental technological progress during the last years. During the end of the 1990's many internet firms were established whose investors expected high revenues. However many of these platforms could not meet the expectations, the stock prices of many firms declined rapidly and many firms filed for bankruptcy. Since 2004 the internet developed to the Web 2.0 which suggests that a better version of the web exists today. Spendings in online advertisements were interestingly not effected by the crash of the internet market at the beginning of the 21st century. Since 1998 the net advertising revenues have increased constantly. In 2008 US-American companies will spend more for internet advertisements than for TV commercials. In the past, famous Web 2.0 websites were sold for high prices: the Holtzbrinck publishing group bought StudiVZ for around 85 million euros, the video website Youtube was sold to Google for 1.65 billion dollars and News Corporation paid 580 million dollars for Myspace. However all of these social networks still have to supply evidence that their company value is not overestimated. As far as the advertisement revenues are concerned none of them generate significant profits yet. In this paper I will analyze the performance of advertisements on Web 2.0 websites as exemplified by social networks. First I will trace the developments that led to the so-called Web 2.0 and define their characteristics. Then I will focus on social networks, analyze their features and the possibilities to use them for advertisement purposes. Finally I will analyze several possibilities to advertise on Web 2.0 websites.

With this book one get expert teaching tips and scripts for informal instruction, plus model activities and assignments for the classroom. Statistics and summaries of relevant research will help one combat myths like "Searching Is Easy," or "Everything Important Is Free." Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2007 in the subject Communications - Multimedia, Internet, New Technologies, grade: 2,0, University of Bremen, language: English, abstract: Web 2.0 is a buzzword in the digital industry at the moment. Some of the popular phenomena which exemplify Web 2.0 are blogs, podcasts, wikis or social bookmarking tools. The core of the concept is the individual as an active participant. Audience activity constitutes one of the central themes of media analysis concerning the audience. One descriptor used to operationalize audience activity is involvement (Levy, 1983). Involvement is also used in another discipline of research: consumer research deploys the concept to explain the decision making process of the consumer. The objective of this thesis is to attempt the transfer of the concept of involvement from consumer research to audience research on the active Web 2.0 audience. In other words: Can the concept of involvement from consumer research serve to explain audience activity as implied in the concept of Web 2.0? First, the concept of involvement will be described in connection to audience as well as consumer research. This is followed by an introduction to the concept of involvement in consumer research.Following a brief conceptual and historical overview, the concept of involvement and its two-dimensional foundation will be delienated and all processes involved will be described. Third, the concept of Web 2.0 will be explained in detail in part 3. In order to understand the media interest surrounding Web 2.0, the anticipated innovations from the beginning of the internet will be listed, as well as the new questions for audience research, that emerged out of the expansion of the internet. In the fourth part of this thesis a conceptual transfer is attempted. To analyse the possibilities of the concept of involvement from consumer research for research on Web 2.0 audience activity, a typology of Web 2.0 audience activities will be suggested. Existing research on the Web 2.0 audience will be reviewed for the processes that amount to the construct of involvement in consumer research. A concluding assessment of the possibilities of the concept of involvement from consumer research for Web 2.0 audience activity research will mark the end.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2006 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: 1,6, European Business School - International University Schloß Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel, language: English, abstract: Recently, a very prominent addition to the internet related vocabulary has been introduced: the Web 2.0. The term was originally coined by Dale Dougherty of O'Reilly Media in summer 2004 and emerged while brainstorming on a name for an innovative internet conference. The emergence of Web 2.0 as an important novum to the internet community gets obvious to the user just by browsing the internet. The term seems to have become a ubiquitous buzzword. Unfortunately the term has been hyped without a collective understanding and clear cut definitions are missing. Gaining a vital understanding of the influences of the Web 2.0 on the social and (macro-) economical context is being hindered by this lack of clear understanding. Some concepts for defining the Web 2.0 already exist. Authors already took the complex nature of Web 2.0 into account and developed models distinguishing different dimensions of the new Web. But there is still demand for a comprehensive model grasping as many related features and topics as possible. This paper suggests a three layer model to embrace the full extent of the new Web. To develop such a model, extensive studies on current literature, which was to a major part available only online, have been conducted. The most important issues regarding conception and layout of the Web have been identified and integrated into the “Web 2.0 Navigator”. Therefore all occurring issues have been grouped and arranged to a three layer model, differentiating the technological layer, the conceptual layer and the application layer. While the technological layer displays the Web 2.0 as an architecture, the conceptual layer covers the philosophy, which is considered by the author as the central innovation around Web 2.0. The application layer finally is a collection of widely used services and applications around the web, which have been developed hand in hand with the architecture and have been strongly promoting the rise of the Web 2.0. The intention of this paper is to suggest a clear-cut definition of the Web 2.0 to allow for an accurate understanding. Furthermore the developed model is used to examine evident and possible effects on the social and macro-economical environment and derive implications.
