The design of this book is structured to present novel insights that explain the theoretical linkages among organizational factors in hotels. Managerial applications that may also support organizational performance are proposed here. My contribution to the hotel management literature lies in presenting theoretical linkages that incorporate the organizational factors that may impact organizational performance in hotels. The findings in this book are based upon previous industry researches. This book also has several implications for research. First, given the emphasis in the literature on hotel leadership and hotel knowledge management as two significant indicators for organizational performance, this book adds to a relatively small body of the hotel management literature. Second, this book advances the current literature on hotel leadership development by offering novel insights into how hotel leaders can prepare hotels for the new normal. Particularly, I argue that hotel leaders are those hotel managers or owners who effectively exert effective changes within hotels. Drawing from the current organizational theories, this book suggests new insights to identify hotel leadership as a primary driver, which influences hotels’ organizational resources. The review of the prior industry research findings reveals that hotel leaders leverage sizable effects on workplace design. In particular, these findings provide evidence that hotel leadership is behind the kind of workplace, which has been designed in hotels. Third, this book contributes to research on hotel change management, through articulating the impacts of hotel leadership on organizational design.

As information flows become increasingly ubiquitous in our post digital environment, the challenges to traditional concepts of intellectual property and the practices deriving from them are immense. The romantic understanding of the lone author as an endless source of new creations has to face these challenges. In order to do so, this work presents a collectivist model of intellectual property rights. The core argument is that since copyright works enjoy profit from significant public contribution, they should not be privately owned, but considered to be a joint enterprise, made real by both the public and author. It is argued that every copyright work depends on and is reflective of the author's exposure to externalities such as language, culture and the various social events and processes that occur in the public domain, therefore copyright works should not be regarded as exclusive private property. The study takes its organizing principle from John Locke, defining and proving the fatal flaw inherent in debates on copyright: on the one hand the copyright community is eager to arm authors with a robust property right over their creation, while on the other this community totally ignores the fact that the exposure of the individual to externalities is what makes him or her capable of creating material that is copyrightable. Just as Locke was against the absolute authority of kings, the expressed view of the study is against the exclusive right an author can claim.

The Idea Of Democracy In The Modern Era written by Ralph Ketcham and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Philosophy categories.

Although the last half of the twentieth century has been called the Age of Democracy, the twenty-first has already demonstrated the fragility of its apparent triumph as the dominant form of government throughout the world. Reassessing the fate of democracy for our time, distinguished political theorist Ralph Ketcham traces the evolution of this idea over the course of four hundred years. He traces democracy's bumpy ride in a book that is both an exercise in the history of ideas and an explication of democratic theory. Ketcham examines the rationales for democratic government, identifies the fault lines that separate democracy from good government, and suggests ways to strengthen it in order to meet future challenges. Drawing on an encyclopedic command of history and politics, he examines the rationales that have been offered for democratic government over the course of four manifestations of modernity that he identifies in the Western and East Asian world since 1600. Ketcham first considers the fundamental axioms established by theorists of the Enlightenment—Bacon, Locke, Jefferson—and reflected in America's founding, then moves on to the mostly post-Darwinian critiques by Bentham, Veblen, Dewey, and others that produced theories of the liberal corporate state. He explains late-nineteenth-century Asian responses to democracy as the third manifestation, grounded in Confucian respect for communal and hierarchical norms, followed by late-twentieth-century postmodernist thought that views democratic states as oppressive and seeks to empower marginalized groups. Ketcham critiques the first, second, and fourth modernity rationales for democracy and suggests that the Asian approach may represent a reconciliation of ancient wisdom and modern science better suited to today's world. He advocates a reorientation of democracy that de-emphasizes group or identity politics and restores the wholeness of the civic community, proposing a return to the Jeffersonian universalism—that which informed the founding of the United States-if democracy is to flourish in a fifth manifestation. The Idea of Democracy in the Modern Era is an erudite, interdisciplinary work of great breadth and complexity that looks to the past in order to reframe the future. With its global overview and comparative insights, it will stimulate discussion of how democracy can survive—and thrive—in the coming era.
