This second edition in just two years offers a considerably revised second chapter, in which information behavior replaces analogies to purely physical systems, as well as practical applications of the authors' theory. Attention is also given to a hierarchical theory of ecosystem behavior, taking note of constraints on local ecosystem members resul.

One of the most exciting and controversial areas of scientific research in recent years has been the application of the principles of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to the problems of the physical evolution of the universe, the origins of life, the structure and succession of ecological systems, and biological evolution.

Market: Those in economics, especially thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, cybernetics, information theory, resource use, and evolutionary economic behavior. This book presents an innovative and challenging look at evolution on several scales, from the earth and its geology and chemistry to living organisms to social and economic systems. Applying the principles of thermodynamics and the concepts of information gathering and self- organization, the author characterizes the direction of evolution in each case as an accumulation of "distinguishability" information--a type of universal knowledge.

Entropy And The Time Evolution Of Macroscopic Systems written by Walter T. Grandy Jr. and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06-26 with Science categories.
This book is based on the premise that the entropy concept, a fundamental element of probability theory as logic, governs all of thermal physics, both equilibrium and nonequilibrium. The variational algorithm of J. Willard Gibbs, dating from the 19th Century and extended considerably over the following 100 years, is shown to be the governing feature over the entire range of thermal phenomena, such that only the nature of the macroscopic constraints changes. Beginning with a short history of the development of the entropy concept by Rudolph Clausius and his predecessors, along with the formalization of classical thermodynamics by Gibbs, the first part of the book describes the quest to uncover the meaning of thermodynamic entropy, which leads to its relationship with probability and information as first envisioned by Ludwig Boltzmann. Recognition of entropy first of all as a fundamental element of probability theory in mid-twentieth Century led to deep insights into both statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, the details of which are presented here in several chapters. The later chapters extend these ideas to nonequilibrium statistical mechanics in an unambiguous manner, thereby exhibiting the overall unifying role of the entropy.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Parallel Problem Solving from Nature, PPSN 2008, held in Dortmund, Germany, in September 2008. The 114 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 206 submissions. The conference covers a wide range of topics, such as evolutionary computation, quantum computation, molecular computation, neural computation, artificial life, swarm intelligence, artificial ant systems, artificial immune systems, self-organizing systems, emergent behaviors, and applications to real-world problems. The paper are organized in topical sections on formal theory, new techniques, experimental analysis, multiobjective optimization, hybrid methods, and applications.

Bioenergetics written by Davor Juretic and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-22 with Science categories.
Bioenergetics deals with the very first energy transformation steps performed by living cells. Increased dissipation is the primary effect of processing external energy packages. Enzyme-supported charge separation is the minor but essential outcome for maintaining life. This book explores the usefulness of dissecting the entropy production of enzymes involved in cellular defenses, fermentation, respiration, and photosynthesis, assuming that tightly regulated dissipation is the hallmark of life. Researchers, educators, and students of life sciences can find in this text many examples of how we can use the interdisciplinary approach to study cells' virtuoso ability to connect the microscopic to the macroscopic world. Each chapter is a self-contained unit with a glossary and selected references for further reading.

Enormous advances in science led to compartmentalization of knowledge into specializations and super specializations so much so that a specialist in one area refuses to look into the other area. Interdisciplinary research is mainly in the applied areas. On the other hand some scientists are enthusiastically exploring less traveled paths. Plant neurobiology and Plant intelligence are the areas that are now being rediscovered. Consciousness is yet another field that is making its way into science from spiritual philosophies. How many of us know that the subject of Human Thermodynamics is being explored though by a small group as of now? The area of Epigenetics is expanding. What caused Human evolution? Can selected random [generally explained as accidental] causes result into the formation of a highly ordered / programmed systems as complex as Human beings in the absence of any drive? Is not natural selection a control/filtering mechanism? What is the meaning of “evolutionary forces” or “selection pressure”? Are the concepts of Statistical Process Control, that deal with the random/nonrandom variations, applicable to the process of evolution by natural selection? What causes the evolution of organized societies? Is poverty less, civil human society viable? These are some of the questions that demand interaction among and across the disciplines, which is often delimited by the boundaries and semantics of disciplines. Humanity, after reaping the harvest of Integrated Technologies, is ushering into an era of Converging Technologies which would necessitate communication bridges between Science and Philosophy, Biology, Physics, Agriculture, Medical Sciences, Engineering and Informatics and other diverse areas of knowledge; and that too with escalated openness. In order to encourage such transdisciplinary interactions, forums were launched at www.network.nature.com and http://knol.google.com/k/arvind-kumar-purohit/ and after post publication open review of tangible ideas the works have been published as Transcience Transactions.
