Criteria for evaluating college and university advancement programs are presented, based on the efforts of professional area trustees and advisory committees of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The criteria can be useful in three ways: as the basis of internal audits of advancement programs or program components; as the basis of external audits, such as those provided by the CASE evaluation service; and as guidance for visitation teams assembled by regional accrediting bodies. Seven types of advancement programs are covered: alumni relations, fund-raising, government relations, institutional relations, periodicals, publications, and management. For each type of program, criteria are listed for evaluating program objectives, management, organizational structure, responsibilities, and budgeting and evaluation. It is noted that periodic internal evaluations provide guidance for college planning and budgeting, as well as for preparing staff members for increased responsibility. Using objective evaluation standards promotes acceptance of the internal audit and enables comparisons with similar schools. The use of standards by external evaluators focuses attention on the larger and most important considerations. (SW)

Evaluating Police Management Development Programs written by Byron K. Simerson and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-05-11 with Law categories.

Designed to meet the growing demand for evaluation material, this volume fills a major gap in criminal justice literature. It details the first comprehensive, broad based, and theoretically grounded model for evaluating police management training programs. In a clear and concise style it develops a complete set of instruments for evaluation and then illustrates use of the model and the instruments on a specific program. Byron Simerson and William Markham have included all of the instruments needed to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and the instructions for their use. Alleviating the problem of haphazard evaluation, this volume was designed for police chiefs and training directors in larger jurisdictions, state criminal justice academies, the Training and Standards Divisions of State Departments of Justice, and state and federal law enforcement agencies. Administrators are now recognizing the importance of determining training program efficiency, particularly in light of the growing concerns over legal liability. Evaluating Police Management Development Programs provides the tools and expertise needed to conduct a comprehensive program evaluation. Chapters provide: an overview of existing literature, model description, research procedures, model application to a specific police executive development program, reaction by North Carolina police chiefs, and a description of how the model can be applied to any police management development program. Appendices provide all instruments including precourse surveys, observation evaluation forms, course critiques, follow up surveys and chiefs' evaluation surveys.

This issue of New Directions for Evaluation deals with the special evaluation problems of programs in the developing world. Over the last two decades, the framework of economic and social development policy and practice has been transformed. This is due in part to evaluation lessons, which have helped to shape the new development priorities toward sustainability, participation, and insitutional development. In turn, evaluation must deal with the consequences of a more demanding agenda, a more fractured development constituency, and a vastly more complex set of analytical questions. This publication presents the views of development policy makers, practitioners, and evaluators on the kinds of adjustments needed in the approaches, instruments, and processes used by development evaluators. The chapters were discussed in draft form at a Conference on Evaluation and Development, hosted by the world Bank in Washington, D.C., in December 1994. The resulting collection offers a consistent framework for further debate and proposes new emphases for development evaluation. This is the 67th issue in the journal series New Directions for Evaluation. For more information on the series, please see the Journals and Periodicals page.
