The changing environment in higher education requires different approaches to be taken to the provision of professional support services. This may result in the development of outsourced shared services, the convergence of many different student-facing services or the development of more active collaborative networks. This collection of essays considers the changing context and broad principles affecting the ways in which we need to manage and provide services and offers case studies of changes that have already taken place. This book recognizes and uncovers the innovations that leaders and practitioners are implementing to transform and develop the provision of sustainable and creative support services. Such innovations are resulting in diverse models of service delivery and the development of more active collaborative networks and commercial partnerships. The essays are drawn from a broad spectrum of professionals working inside and outside library and information services as well as those responsible for leading multiply converged or joint service teams. Key topics include: The changing higher education context and how to build service success in uncertain times Connecting with the student perspective Working with professional associations Culture, values and change: observations from three consortia in Canada Managing complex change collaboratively and creatively Leaders and influencing skills of the future The role of technology in enabling collaboration and the role of shared data in extending the library?s value Space: changing the boundaries and the communal nature of the academic library Collaborative service provision through super-convergence Joint use libraries and transformational change. Readership: Library leaders and practitioners and students of LIS.|The changing environment in higher education requires different approaches to be taken to the provision of professional support services. As course management systems have become a popular support to distance learning on campuses, integration of library presence into the courseware has had a challenging agenda to academic librarians. This challenge applies especially to those with related position titles, such as a Distance Learning Librarian. It has been recognized that academic librarians must seek to integrate their resources into online courses delivered via course management systems, in order to ensure that libraries continue to remain vital to higher education. Collaborations are crucial to ensure successful integration of the library into the course management system. The changing environment in higher education requires different approaches to be taken to the provision of professional support services. This may result in the development of outsourced shared services, the convergence of many different student-facing services or the development of more active collaborative networks. This book, Collaboration in Libraries and Learning Environments, reflects the changing context and broad principles affecting the ways in which we need to manage and provide services and offers case studies of changes that have already taken place. This book distinguishes and exposes the innovations that leaders and practitioners are implementing to transform and develop the provision of sustainable and creative support services. Such innovations are resulting in diverse models of service delivery and the development of more active collaborative networks and commercial partnerships.

The book is a compilation of case studies of activities conducted by the library as a best practice contributing to Crowd-based Open Learning Environment in a College Library setup. The case studies have been detailed on aspects of context, objective, practice, impact, findings, outcome, resources required and lessons learned. The activities include - Book talk, Earn while you learn scheme, Foreign language club, Information literacy programme, Learning Commons, Makerspace and Research Commons. This book will be useful for practicing librarians in academic libraries of Engineering, Science & Technology and School libraries too.In the present scenario the education system has been rapidly changing with the evolving global research the focus now has been shifted from teaching to learning and facilitating learning. The role of libraries has also been affected by merely being a resource center to service centers and more over a space designed to promote collaborative learning. When the latest technological and ICT developments challenge the very existence of Libraries and Librarians regarding MOOC''s, Online resources and Google respectively; turning these challenges into opportunities, doing a SWOT analysis of Librarianship and the skills we possess and redefining our roles have become inevitable. Thus the role of librarians has also changed from merely doing traditional routines of acquisition, classification, cataloging and so on to a blended librarian who now also supports in instruction design and works on Faculty-Librarian collaboration to facilitate the entire learning process. In the present era due to the advancement of ICT and growing virtual resources, the question is how to put these already existing resources to use, (thus the Open Learning Environment(OLE) Model) rather than just creating new resources and how to get your own crowd involved in the process (thus crowdsourcing). Through this research, the researcher would like to propose a model which would make learning effective in reduced time at the Library setup in context to the existing Institutional ethnography and learning barriers of the crowd at Atmiya. In this book an effort has been made by the researcher to give a detail about the case studies - in this case, the best practices the Atmiya Library in creating a crowd-based open learning environment at Library. The case studies list the details of the context; objective; practice details; impact and resources required. In many of these case studies, details of the impact study in the form of survey or narratives and testimonials are also provided. In a few case studies attempt has been made to give an account of lessons learned in the process for effective implementation of the practice. The case studies provide a broad view of the methods for delivering Learning opportunities and an environment for the same; developing a research culture and supporting innovation through collaborative efforts of Librarian- faculty collaboration; Case study on ILP provides details about planning the ILP for Teaching; for learning and for research purpose; and Learning commons case study gives the details of the Modern library facilities needed and its impact on usage. There are total seven case studies I have described for the practicing librarian who can implement the same for setting up Collaborative open learning environment in the library.I have also described the impact , practices , glimpses , resource required to implement the case studies based on the crowd we have. The aim was to make reading good books a natural, cultural practice in the State to make Gujarat a ''Well read'' society by creating the landscape and minds cape of the State thick with noble thoughts gleaned through reading."To create a win-win opportunity for the students and Library by helping students get hands-on work experience of applying their knowledge of the subject of Engineering in Library automation, development of new services like social media.

It's the learning environment, not the wiring. As you will see, without an extremely intelligent engineering design many of these learning environment-centered service programs would not be possible. It takes a very sophisticated integrated technologies system infrastructure to mount an effective program of services within the new "cybrary." However, you don't wire for the sake of wiring. You wire for a reason-the creation of optimal learning environments.
