'Gracie tells the story of her struggle and eventual triumph as a way of encouraging us, of changing our society, of giving us all courage . . . Equal is a very important book' Sandi Toksvig Equal pay has been the law for half a century. But women often get paid less than men, even when they're doing equal work. Mostly they don't know because pay is secret. But what if a woman finds out? What should she do? In Equal, award-winning journalist Carrie Gracie covers her own experience of holding her employer - the BBC - to account and investigates why we're still being paid unequally. Equal will open your eyes, fix your resolve and give you the tools to act - and act now. Landmark Cases In Labour Law written by Jeremias Adams-Prassl and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-15 with Law categories.

This book features essays by leading legal scholars on 'landmark' labour law cases from the mid-19th century to the present day. The essays are acutely sensitive to the historical and theoretical context of each case, and the volume provides original and sometimes startling new perspectives on some familiar friends. There are few activities as distinctively human as work and labour. The book traces the development of labour law through the social struggles and economic conflicts between workers, trade unions, and employers. The narrative arc of its landmark cases reveals the richness and complexity of the human story played out in the working lives of real people. It also charts the remarkable transformation of the constitutional role of courts in labour law, from instruments of class oppression to the vindication of workers' fundamental rights at work. The collection will be of interest to students, scholars, and legal practitioners in labour and equality law, as well as students in management studies, industrial relations, and labour history.

Union Recognition written by Gregor Gall and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-16 with Business & Economics categories.

Several thousand new trade union recognition agreements have been signed since 1997, representing a major development within industrial relations in Britain. This has resulted from the interaction of union organizing efforts and the statutory union recognition provisions of the Employment Relations Act 1999. However for trade unions, recognition alone is not enough, a vital issue is whether, having gained union recognition, trade unions are now effectively delivering upon the promises and prospects of union recognition. These essays examine the substantive outcomes of these new agreements in regard to union representation and collective bargaining. In particular, they explore: the impact on terms and conditions of employment employers’ behaviour and strategy the nature of the union-management bargaining relationship the building of workplace unionism. While the collection focuses primarily on Britain, the germane issues are also looked at in the context of Australia, Canada and the U.S.A. Conceptually and theoretically, Union Recognition offers contributions which develop our understanding of the relationship between workplace and national unionisms and of mobilization theory.
