Christians have always believed in the triune God, but they haven't always understood or used the doctrine of the Trinity consistently. In order to form a coherent view of trinitarian theology, it's important for Christians to have a working knowledge of the two legitimate models for explaining this doctrine: Classical – presenting a traditional view of the Trinity, represented by the Baptist theologian Stephen R. Holmes and the Roman Catholic theologian Paul D. Molnar. Relational – presenting the promise and potential hazards of a relational doctrine, represented by the evangelical theologian Thomas H. McCall and the Baptist philosopher Paul S. Fiddes. In this volume of the Counterpoints series, leading contributors establish their models and approaches to the doctrine of the Trinity (or, the relationship between the threeness and oneness of the divine life). Each expert highlights the strengths of his view in order to argue how it best reflects the orthodox perspective. In order to facilitate a genuine debate and to make sure that the key issues are revealed, each contributor addresses the same questions regarding their trinitarian methodology, doctrine, and its implications.

Synopsis: Writing for church leaders, worship leaders, and songwriters as well as those interested in theology, Robin Parry looks at why the Trinity matters and addresses pressing questions such as: What is the relationship between theology and worship? Why is the Trinity central to Christian living and believing? Does the Trinity help us understand what we do when we worship? How can we write and select songs that foster an awareness of the Trinity? How can we make the Trinity central through Holy Communion, spiritual gifts, preaching, and the use of the arts? Practical and realistic, Worshiping Trinity shows how we can maintain the centrality of the Trinity in a fast-changing worship culture. Endorsement: "An extremely valuable resource for any pastor, leader, or worshiping heart. Get your gloves on--this is an extremely helpful book." --MATT REDMAN Worship leader "Robin Parry has given us a terrific resource by which we can see a clearer picture of the God we worship--Father, Son and Holy Spirit." --Keith Getty, Hymn writer "Succeeds in articulating the issues in a manner which is not merely theologically profound but lucid, accessible and profoundly relevant." --Alan J. Lack of understanding of the concept of the Holy Trinity has plagued the church of Jesus Christ for more than two thousand years. But this doctrine is not difficult to understand when we restrict ourselves solely to the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ -the author and finisher of our faith. Although the bible does not mention the word "Trinity" in all the books, however, there is a word mentioned in the bible that confirms the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. This word reveals the plurality-in-unity of the divine nature of God. The word "Godhead" appeared 3 times in the New Testament and an in-depth study of this word, unveils the concept of the Holy Trinity. It was translated from the Greek word "THEIOS" which is translated in Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament as the Holy Trinity comprising the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. So the bible do, indeed, mention the Holy Trinity but by a different name. As a former Muslim, the subject of the Holy Trinity became a major stumbling block in my early Christian walk and therefore I devoted almost two decades of my life seeking for answers to this elusive Christian doctrine. Progressively, the Lord gradually revealed this concept to me in a very easy to understand manner. So, in this book, you will find answers to some of the questions that most of us ask in our quest to understand the Holy Trinity. For example, is Jesus Christ the same as God? Or is Jesus Christ the only Begotten Son of God? What did Jesus imply when He said "I and the Father are one". Was He denying the Holy Spirit as part of the trinity since He didn't say, "I, the Father and the Holy Spirit are one" but instead He left out the Holy Spirit and said, "I and the Father are one". These and many other probing questions would be answered based on the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, did Christendom borrow the doctrine of the trinity from pagan religions in antiquity at the Council of Catholic Bishops at Nicaea in the fourth century AD? Or did the council of Nicaea echo a truth recorded in the bible from the beginning of time? The Holy Scriptures clearly unveils God to the reader without any ambiguity but human interpretations had confused this doctrine thus making it difficult to understand. The bible does not address the Holy Trinity as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Instead, the bible addresses the Holy Trinity as God the Father, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit of God. So, what is the difference between these two descriptions? Through the pages of this book, you will find answers to these and many other probing questions. Jesus Christ, in the Gospels, answered all these questions.

The mystery of the Trinity is the central Christian belief that defines God's essence, God's ongoing love for humanity, and saving grace. Yet, over the past few centuries, especially in the West, Christians have either ceased believing in the Trinity or simply no longer recognize its relevance in their ecclesial or individual lives. Written in an ecumenical spirit that engages contemporary questions and theological viewpoints, The Trinity: Rediscovering the Central Christian Mystery articulates the mystery of the Trinity for people formed by modern historical consciousness, science, awareness of the equal dignity of men and women, and respect for world religions. By first identifying contemporary problems with the Christian proclamation of the Trinity in our culture and major differences among modern theologians, John Farrelly, OSB, explores Scripture, the life and message of Jesus Christ, the various stages of the development of Trinitarian doctrine in Christian History, the relation of the Trinity to creation and salvation, the generation of the Son from the Father within the Trinity and the procession of the Holy Spirit from Father and Son, and the meaning of three persons in one God. He concludes by reflecting on the implications this renewed theology of the Trinity has for ecclesiology and Christian spirituality in our twenty-first century world, especially in relation to other world religions.

In the last thirty years, books on the Trinity have abounded. There seems to be a fascination with this mysterious topic, especially among systematic theologians. The topic has been mined for many different interests, from liberation theology to feminist interpretations of the Christian heritage and from neo-Reformation theology to interreligious dialogue. This book has no intention of adding to the plethora of treatises on the Trinity. The main question with which it is concerned is what is really scripturally tenable with regard to the Trinity and what is unwarranted theological construction or even speculation. Through this question, Schwarz tries to discern whether the theological assertions made about the Trinity are in line with the biblical base from which they are derived, or whether they have veered off in a more or less questionable direction. What takes shape here is a story: how the doctrine of the Trinity developed over the subsequent centuries from the traces in Scripture to a centralized dogma at the heart of Christian teaching. We witness in this an evolution from proclamation to controversy to speculation. What are we to make of this doctrine? How do we articulate the biblical faith today?
