Paraprofessionals play a crucial role in bringing inclusivity and knowledge of evidence-based instructional approaches to the classroom. However, research suggests that paraprofessionals often lack sufficient training and may inadvertently hinder the social and academic progress and development of children with disabilities (Clarke & Visser, 2016; Feldman & Matos, 2012; Mason et al., 2020). After thorough investigation, it became clear that paraprofessionals would benefit from a training that focuses on roles and responsibilities, inclusion, the special education process, instruction and content, behavior supports, accommodations and modifications, data collection, and health and safety. This project is a professional development training that was created to help paraprofessionals feel more confident in their ability to perform their roles and responsibilities in the special education classroom. It addresses the lack of professional development training taking place for paraprofessionals in the elementary school setting and the difficulties paraprofessionals face in carrying out their roles and responsibilities with little understanding of what the expectations are.
