Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, from 1871, is a children's novel that is often put in the genre "literary nonsense". Although its the sequel of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland it doesn't reference events of the first book; but some of its settings and themes do form a kind of mirror image of Wonderland. While playing with her kittens, Alice wonders what life would be like on the other side of the mirror. Much to her astonishment she passes through it into an alternate world and discovers looking-glass poetry and talking flowers and becomes a piece in a game of chess played by the Red Queen against the White Queen.

Alice's second adventure takes her through the looking-glass to a place even curiouser than Wonderland. She finds herself caught up in the great looking-glass chess game and sets off to become a queen. It isn't as easy as she expects: at every step she is hindered by nonsense characters who crop up and insist on reciting poems. Some of these poems, such as 'The Walrus and the Carpenter' and 'Jabberwocky', are as famous as the Alice stories themselves. Gloriously illustrated with the original line drawings by John Tenniel, plates coloured by John Macfarlane, a ribbon marker and a foreword by Roald Dahl Funny Prize-winner Philip Ardagh, this beautiful hardback Macmillan Classics edition of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, which was first published by Macmillan in 1871, is a truly special gift to treasure.

Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871) is a children's book written by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson). It is considered literary nonsense. It's a follow-up to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865). The themes and settings of Through the Looking-Glass make it a kind of mirror image of Wonderland, despite the fact that it makes no reference to the events of the first book: the first begins outdoors, in the warm month of May, on Alice's birthday (May 4), uses frequent changes in size as a plot device, and draws on the imagery of playing cards; the second opens indoors on a snowy, wintry night exactly as the first. Many mirror themes appear in it, such as opposites, time going backwards, and so on. This is a true story that should be read by everyone.
