Vertical farming, especially indoor agriculture under rigorously controlled conditions, is considered as an efficient solution which is capable of facing the threats setting the traditional food production system under pressure. Neither soil nor sunlight are required for the artificial controlled environment in vertical farming systems. The unique vertical farming systems can help to face geographic disbalances in the distribution of food and ensure that the final products have superior freshness and quality. Nevertheless, due to the artificial created environment, the vertical farming systems and their growth conditions may be perceived as unsustainable. As the overall consumer acceptance of different vertical farming systems has yet only been analysed by Jürkenbeck, et al. (2019), this master thesis analyses the driving factors influencing the consumer acceptance of vertical home farms, in-store vertical farms and indoor vertical farms and how these factors differ among CSA members, supermarket and farmer's market customers. The data to analyse this research project was collected through an online survey with 227 participants in Germany in November 2020. The driving factors influencing the consumer acceptance of vertical home farms, in-store vertical farms and indoor vertical farms, are identified through structural equation modelling. The overall behavioural intention to buy the products grown in a vertical farming system was strongly influenced by the perceived sustainability. The path analysis revealed that perceived sustainability is one of the main drivers of the acceptance of vertical farming systems. Nevertheless, the results collected for this master thesis showed that for all three vertical farming systems, perceived sustainability had a smaller impact on the perceived usefulness for the CSA members compared to all other sample groups. Moreover, the technological affinity of CSA members had the strongest impact on the perceived usefulnes of the in-store vertical farm.
