Yuan, founder and CEO, Zoom Inspired by venture capitalists' unique way of thinking, The Venture Mindset offers a transformative playbook for delivering results in a rapidly changing world from a top Stanford professor and a technology executive. The world is facing dramatic geopolitical, environmental, and technological shifts. Venture Meets Mission argues that if Business, Government, and Society come together, rebuild trust, and collaborate, we have a generational opportunity to address societal challenges—climate change, cybersecurity, disease outbreaks, food insecurity, and education. The book explains, with hope and passion, how our existing entrepreneurial ecosystem, with the ideals of democracy, can be the foundation for a new mission-driven capitalism. The good news is the components of this problem-solving ecosystem already exist. The authors explain what is required to join people, purpose, and profit together for world-changing impact—starting with rebuilding trust among Business, Government, and Society. The authors draw on their leadership experience with Silicon Valley innovation, venture capital, and work at the highest levels of the federal government. The book tells engaging stories of successful entrepreneurs, with diverse perspectives and intersectional experiences, who combine mission and venture to solve critical societal problems. This book seeks to inspire a generation of students, young professionals, and entrepreneurial executives to pursue mission-driven ventures that can make the world a better place. Venture Meets Mission also explains why and how forward-thinking government officials and policymakers can harness private sector entrepreneurship and innovation to solve society's problems.

The Sustainable Organization written by Peter Wollmann and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-06 with Business & Economics categories.

This book explores topics related to sustainability, including the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and accountability in various activities. It reflects the complex and diverse landscape of sustainability efforts in organizations and the pursuit of SDGs. It emphasizes that achieving global change and making the world a better place isn't a straightforward, linear process but rather a conglomerate of diverse and interconnected journeys driven by countless parties with individual interests and systemic conditions. Recognizing the impossibility of creating a comprehensive "Big Picture" covering all facets, the authors' ambition is to contribute to the discussion on sustainability and SDG coverage through inspiring use cases. The book illustrates how the Three-Pillar-Model leads to sustainability and SDG coverage. It emphasizes the importance of a strong Sustainable Purpose, mindset transformation in organizations, and cross-silo cooperation for success. The book features contributions from various authors and institutions from all over the world, including (former) leaders of UN agencies, NGOs, enterprises, venture capital funds and angel investor communities, consultancies, universities, historians, system theorists, philosophers and linguists. The chapters also provide diverse perspectives and historical cases to facilitate learning and exploration in this vast field.

Identifying a new approach to disaster response: spontaneous, compassionate, and impromptu actions to alleviate suffering. In Spontaneous Venturing, Dean Shepherd and Trenton Williams identify and describe a new approach for responding to disaster and suffering: the local organizing of spontaneous, compassionate, and impromptu actions—the rapid emergence of a compassionate venture. This approach, termed by the authors “spontaneous venturing,” can be more effective than the traditional “command-and-control” methods of large disaster relief organizations. It can customize and target resources and deliver them quickly, helping victims almost immediately. For example, during the catastrophic 2009 bushfires in Victoria, Australia—the focal disaster for the book—residents organized an impromptu relief center that collected and distributed urgently needed goods without red tape. Special bonds and friendships formed among the volunteers and victims; some were both volunteer and victim. Many victims were able to mobilize resources despite considerable personal losses. Shepherd and Williams describe the lasting impact of disaster and tell the stories of Victoria residents who organized in the aftermath of the bushfires. They consider the limitations of traditional disaster relief efforts and explain that when victims take action to help others, they develop behavioral, emotional, and assumptive resilience; venturing leads to social interaction, community connections, and other positive outcomes. Finally, they explore spontaneous venturing in a less-developed country, investigating the activities of Haitians after the devastating 2010 earthquake. The lesson for communities hit by disaster: find opportunities for compassionate action.
