The Third World Beyond the Cold War presents an overview of the changes brought about in Third World countries since the end of the cold war. The book does so in two ways: by highlighting major areas of change in the Third World, and using regional case-studies as a meas of islating changes specific to certain regions. The themes chosen by the editors--economics, politics, security--are not, of course, exhaustive, but are broadly interpreted so as to encompass the major areas of change among Third World countries. The regional case-studies--Asia-Pacific, Latin America, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East--were selected to bring out both the themes and the diversity of experience. The essays, written by leading scholars in the field of International Relations, caters for a variety of constituencies: those who seek the `big picture' in understanding the Third World in International Relations, those who look for general patterns, explanations, and trends in Third World politics, and those who seek up-to-date information and analysis on the progress of different regions.

Striding boldly where other scholars have feared to tread, Agunga offers a definitive solution strategy for people-centered development, armed with his upbringing in Africa, considerable field work experience, and knowledge of the literature. Feminist Views Of The Social Sciences written by Christine Williams and has been published by SAGE Publications, Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-09 with Political Science categories.

Among the many achievements of the feminist movement of the 1970s was the unprecedented influx of women into academia. Over the last 25 years, women have entered the social sciences in huge numbers - bringing with them new perspectives and new insights into the social world. This special issue of The Annals reflects on this multivocal, richly textured, and dynamic revolution. From anthropology to psychology to geography to criminology and more, leading feminists reflect on the most significant contributions of feminist activism and feminist research to their fields. Two main themes run through this volume: the relationship between feminist scholarship and feminist activism, and the enduring controversies and future direction of feminist social science. The contributions run the gamut from the impact of feminism on specific social science disciplines such as family studies, archaeology, political science, and media studies to the influence of feminist thought on specific topics such as federally funded social science, migration, media practices, and sexuality. The main conclusion of this volume is that, "where reigning paradigms are strong and the accepted methodologies are limited, feminist perspectives tend to be marginalized. On the other hand, fields that are theoretically eclectic and interdisciplinary appear to be the most welcoming to feminist influence."

Globalization And The Middle East written by Toby Dodge and has been published by Royal Institute for International Affairs this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Business & Economics categories.

The subject of globalization has come to dominate informed debate across a broad sweep of disciplines. But there are few good detailed published studies on the influence of globalization on non-European areas of the world. This study aims to fill the gap by bringing together a number of experts on the Middle East to examine the dynamic changes it has brought to the region. The book examines the place globalization occupies in the history of the Middle East and how it is set to transform relations between governments in the area and the external and former colonial powers. It focuses on the political, cultural and economic effects of globalization on the states of the Gulf, before applying each of these three themes to the wider Middle East.
