The Prisonhouse Of Psychoanalysis written by Arnold I. Goldberg and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Psychology categories.

In The Prisonhouse of Psychoanalysis, Arnold Goldberg trains a searching, critical eye on his own profession. His subject matter is the system of interlocking constraints - theoretical, institutional, educational - that imprisons psychoanalysis and the psychoanalyst. His agenda is to sketch the shape analysis might take in the absence of these constraints. What emerges from these twin endeavors is a penetrating critique of psychoanalysis from the inside - from the vantage point of a senior analyst who has labored for many years within the prisonhouse that he now criticizes. In proffering an alternative vision of psychoanalysis, Goldberg ventures into recent literature in epistemology, philosophy of science, cognitive psychology, and the neurosciences, so that one valuable byproduct of his work is a brilliant application of insights culled from these fields to the question of what analysis is, and what it may yet become. His examination of "psychoanalysis without foundations" challenges the ability of infancy research data and neurological findings, respectively, to provide an empirical rock bottom from which psychoanalytic theory-building can proceed. His chapter on "psychoanalysis without representations" reviews the analytic literature on the latter concept, only to show how recent theories of brain processing, including connectionism, provides a basis for understanding mental phenomena without any intermediary representations. Finally, his vision of "psychoanalysis without a subject" assesses recent findings about the nature of memory, insights of contemporary philosophy, and Kohut's notion of the selfobject as converging tributaries that make possible an analysis that dispenses with the conventional dichotomy of subject and object.

Jimmy has reached a crossroads in his life. After many months of drifting and drinking his way around Europe he finds himself at the sharp edge of the empire, incarcerated in Seven Towers, a notorious hilltop prison, peering into the abyss. Jimmy has always been an outsider, but is now a fully-fledged alien, who doesn't understand the language or customs of the other inmates, just that their crimes range from shoplifting and drug addiction to murder and rape. But what exactly is the nature of Jimmy's offence? And what is the dark secret that haunts his every move? Seven Towers is another name for Hell: a place where squalor and fear are endemic and imagination is the only means of escape. The characters Jimmy meets inside push his sanity to the brink: the silent, pyjama-clad Papa with his knitting needle, the cheerful killer and mutilator known as the Butcher, the gentle Franco and the cruel Homer, and Dumb Dumb, a deaf mute building a better world out of matchsticks. A visceral, violent, compelling novel, it is also a moving testament to the human spirit and its ability - against the odds - to hold on to hope and the idea of love..

The Role Of Food In Resettlement And Rehabilitation written by Julie Parsons and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-16 with Cooking categories.

Exploring the role of food in enabling people with convictions to live a “good life”, this book examines the tangible ways in which growing food, cooking, and eating together has the potential to be both transformative and small steps incremental in facilitating desistance journeys for people with convictions. At its most reductive, food sustains us physically; it’s the fuel which keeps us alive. Of course, emotionally, culturally, and socially it does more than that. This edited book addresses an under-researched area of resettlement and rehabilitation which has real-world application to policy and practice in criminal justice and related areas such as mental health, physical health, employment, and education. Importantly, given the relatability of food growing, cooking, and eating to the wider public, it offers opportunities to connect the desistance journeys and lives of people with convictions to the wider public. The Role of Food in Resettlement and Rehabilitation will be of great interest to students and scholars of criminology, sociology, social work, and food studies. It is also important reading for government policymakers in criminal justice and health care, social policy, and criminal justice practitioners, including prison governors, social workers, and providers of services for people with convictions in custody and community.
