"[A] comprehensive and thorough [book] . . . serious students and Bible classes will value highly as they search the scriptures for their eternal meaning." — Kirkus Reviews Here is a freshly updated edition of one of the most popular introductions to the history and literature of the Old Testament. The Old Testament Speaks offers a clear picture of the archaeological, geographical, historical, and linguistic dimensions of God's covenant with his people from the time of Abraham to the coming of the Messiah. Samuel J. Schultz emphasizes the importance of letting the Scriptures tell their own stories. He makes selective use of the best and latest literature in Old Testament studies, and offers a balanced perspective. Schultz also appraises the impact of recent archaeological and historical findings on the understanding of key portions of the Old Testament. The Old Testament Speaks contains all the relevant material—biblical and nonbiblical—necessary for classroom use or personal study of the Old Testament. Schultz provides outlines that reflect the historical background and summarize the contents of each biblical book, as well as charts and maps to help visualize the biblical narrative. He has also revised and updated the bibliographies at the end of each chapter. "A book for the thoughtful layman, the preaching pastor, and the classroom instructor. . . . Dr. Schultz emphasizes the practical message of the text and carefully balances solid academics with spiritual insights." —Warren W. Wiersbe, author of With the Word: The Chapter by Chapter Bible Handbook "A positive proclamation of the spirit and purpose of the Old Testament." — Christianity Today

Here is a freshly updated edition of one of the most popular introductions to the history and literature of the Old Testament. The Old Testament Speaks offers a clear picture of the archaeological, geographical, historical, and linguistic dimensions of God's covenant with his people from the time of Abraham to the coming of the Messiah. The Old Testament Speaks examines the historical and religious life of the Hebrews, integrates the development of non-hebraic cultures with conventional biblical history, and reviews the best modern scholarly research in placing the Scriptures in their Near Eastern setting. Samuel J. Schultz emphasizes the importance of letting the Scriptures tell their own stories. He makes selective use of the best and latest literature in Old Testament studies, and offers a balanced perspective. Schultz sifts the facts and follows them to their inevitable conclusions. However, when the evidence is not definitive, he exercises caution, presenting his own interpretation as only one of several possible views. Schultz also appraises the impact of recent archaeological and historical findings on the understanding of key portions of the Old Testament. The Old Testament Speaks contains all the relevant material -- biblical and nonbiblical -- necessary for classroom use or personal study of the Old Testament. Schultz provides outlines that reflect the historical background and summarize the contents of each biblical book, as well as charts and maps to help visualize the biblical narrative. He has also revised and updated the biblio-graphies at the end of each chapter.

Theology Of The Old Testament written by Gustav Friedrich Oehler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1883 with Bible categories.
Gustav Friedrich Oehler was an Old Testament scholar and professor at Tübingen in Germany. At this time, he was among the foremost proponents of theological conservatism with regard to the Old Testament, rejecting the rationalism of Schleiermacher and the liberal school arising from his work. For Oehler, the Old Testament is an account of real history and divine revelation, rather than a product of mere human development. This two volume set, published after Oehler's death by his son in 1874, contains the contents of Oehler's three decades of lectures on his area of expertise. This early work of Biblical Theology explains the progressive revelation of divine truths from the first chapters of Genesis through the end of the Old Testament. It contains both a history of God's people, and an examination of the theological convictions of the Old Testament authors as moved by the Spirit.
