Suiting Themselves written by Sharon Beder and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-25 with Business & Economics categories.

In this brilliantly researched expos 'communications Rottweiler' Sharon Beder blasts open the backrooms and boardrooms to reveal how the international corporate elite dictate global politics for their own benefit. Beder shows how they created business associations andthink tanks in the 1970s to drive public policy, forced the worldwide privatization and deregulation of public services in the 1980s and 1990s (enabling a massive transfer of ownership and control over essential services) and, still not satisfied, have worked relentlessly since the late 1990s to rewrite the very rules of the global economy to funnel wealth and power into their pockets. Want a globalized and homogenized world of conflict, poverty and massive environmental degradation run by a corporate oligarchy that wipes its feet on democracy? Or a democratic world, where poverty is history, companies work for people and clean water is a right, not a privilege you pay for? Beder‘s message is clear - it‘s your world, and it‘s time to fight for it.

The Routledge International Handbook of Social Development, Social Work, and the Sustainable Development Goals answers the question: What is the contribution of social development and social work to the Sustainable Development Goals? The success of these goals requires implementation, and each of the 17 objectives for sustainable social progress have a social dimension. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), like the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) before them, were born of a larger social development movement which over the last 25 years has become increasingly mainstream in the fields of international development, sustainability, and social work. These practitioners are essential to the implementation of the SDGs. This handbook examines how the SDGs are being implemented in diverse contexts. No previous work has surveyed social development and social work’s contribution to the SDGs nor represented voices from the Global South on the SDGs. This book broadens the current literature by focusing on key sites throughout the Global South and featuring underrepresented voices from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These regions are vitally important to assessing the SDGs, as this is where innovative social development projects are occurring, and where social workers are playing a leading role in achieving the SDGs. The book is divided into eight parts: • Context of Social Development, Social Work, and the SDGs • Perspectives on the SDGs • Case Studies on Engagement with the SDG Agenda • Case Studies on Ending Poverty • Case Studies on Health and Well-Being • Case Studies on Gender Equality • Case Studies on Climate and Sustainability • Case Studies on Governance, Peace, and Justice It comprises 35 newly written chapters by 74 authors. It will be of interest to a broad interdisciplinary audience of scholars, educators, and students in the fields of social development, social welfare, social work, social policy, human rights, international relations, political science, international affairs, sustainability, community development, area studies, and development studies.

Decolonization As World Counterculture written by Sandra Holtgreve and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-10-28 with Social Science categories.

Decolonization as World Counterculture captures the underlying conditions of the rise of post- and decolonial theories by asking how we arrived at this moment when decolonial arguments seem to be everywhere and yet not enough. While efforts to decolonize knowledge and disciplines continue to expand, this book takes a different, theory-reflecting approach. It examines instead how decolonization itself has become a global although unequally addressed phenomenon. Bringing together world culture research with postcolonial studies in the field of social work, the book analyzes social work curricula from Germany, Mexico, and Ecuador to explore how (de)coloniality is embedded in diverging horizons of meanings but shaped by strikingly similar institutions in the educational setting. To this end, the book offers a knowledge sociological view on how decolonization itself is globalized. It mobilizes the neo-institutional approach of world culture to describe the decolonial imperative as “world counterculture,” an integrative frame of otherwise different and diverging social justice agendas. In this way, taking the theoretical premises of decolonization seriously, the book examines the promises and limitations of connecting decolonization with Western theories of globalization. Assembling these distinct pieces of a puzzle spanning different fields, this book is a testimony to the most successful and thriving theoretical views of the last decades in the human and social sciences. It is sure to challenge, fascinate, and inspire readers across the specialist fields of postcolonial studies, the sociology of knowledge, global social theory, and international social work.
