In addition to this, the definition of the gender pay gap is explained, just like the differences between adjusted and unadjusted gender pay gap and how this distinction affects the implementation of possible solutions. The third chapter gives an insight into the reasons for inequality of salaries between women and men, such as educational segregation that later leads to the occupational segregation, negotiating skills of women (or lack of those skills), parental leave, glass ceiling, glass escalator, and sticky floor correlation, lack of affordable childcare, the way work is valued. When it comes to the solutions, chapter three shows that more legal regulations, pay transparency, equalising family leave, increasing female salaries, and companies committing to gender-balanced leadership could help close the gap. Apart from the discourse analysis, the questionnaire was conducted to find out and show diverse people's opinions in the author ́s environment (family, friends, co-workers, neighbours, fellow students) on the gender pay gap. For example, what they think the main reasons are, solutions, when could the gender wage gap end, to what extent do they agree or disagree with the given statements. Another goal was to explain gender (in)equality in their workplace and compare survey results with those in the first part of the research. It can be then seen that the research design consists of both qualitative and quantitative analysis, the so-called mixed methods.

Reducing pay inequality between women and men is a key priority, both nationally and internationally, for achieving gender equality. Documenting gender inequality in pay and tracking progress in this regard for policy purposes requires at least one indicator. The adjusted gender pay gap-the raw difference between the employment earnings of women and men, expressed either as a proportion of men's earnings (i.e., the "gender pay ratio") or one minus the gender pay ratio-typically serves this purpose. At present, there are no internationally-recognized standards for measuring the adjusted gender pay gap, leaving considerable scope for political choice. The purpose of this paper is to inform the development of international standards for measuring the adjusted gender pay gap by explaining the assumptions underlying, and the implications following from, various methods. Additionally, the paper strives to increase literacy about the meaning and interpretation of different estimates of the gender pay gap, and to bring together various explanations for the gender pay gap.

The gender pay gap (GPG) exists in every European country, but it varies considerably, even in EU member states covered by the same legal principles on pay equality. Part of the variation can be explained by different patterns of social partnership. With current policy pressure to de-centralise collective bargaining and increase the percentage of pay linked to productivity, what role can social partnership play in tackling the GPG? Reporting on the findings of the European Commission funded research project "Close the Deal, Fill the Gap", this book uses an interdisciplinary analysis involving legal, economic, and sociological expertise, to explore the role of social partnership in GPG in Italy, Poland and the UK. Selected on the basis of their contrasting profiles in terms of legal regulation, industrial relations, systems of collective bargaining, coverage of collective agreements, and differing rates of the GPG, the in-depth study provides important insights into the main issues underlying the problem of reducing the gender pay gap which have led to guidelines in the negotiation of arrangements on GPG-related issues. Based on a unique comparative, interdisciplinary and action-oriented esearch project, it will be of great interest to all researchers and advanced students with an interest in women’s representation in the workforce and the gender pay gap, as well as practitioners and policy makers in organisations such as trade unions and employers’ associations.
