Computer Programs for Chemistry, Volume 4, aims to make available a useful collection of tested programs, which may be expected to have a long useful life. Since the programs in each volume are represented by considerably over 10,000 source cards, arrangements have been made to provide a master tape for each volume. The programs in the series fall into two broad classes: complete packages and subroutines. ANSI FORTRAN has been chosen as the language since it provides adequate flexibility and excellent compatibility. But where departures are needed for efficiency, the editors have not hesitated to allow use of small subroutines in nonstandard FORTRAN or in assembly language, with careful documentation. The programs discussed in this volume include LSKIN2, FRS3, GENLSS, CDORD, EQCENT, EDITQ and EDITID, LORAK, and INDEX. Anyone who intends to use computer techniques will have to learn about computer hardware and computer software. To use effectively even the stand-alone programs in these volumes requires some understanding of FORTRAN. This volume also contains a number of converting subroutines that are useful primarily to the serious programmer. These have proved especially useful as parts of programs presented in previous volumes.

After 20 years of pursuing rough set theory and its applications a look on its present state and further prospects is badly needed. The monograph Rough Set Theory and Granular Computing edited by Masahiro Inuiguchi, Shoji Hirano and Shusaku Tsumoto meets this demand. It presents the newest developments in this area and gives fair picture of the state of the art in this domain. Firstly, in the keynote papers by Zdzislaw Pawlak, Andrzej Skowron and Sankar K. Pal the relationship of rough sets with other important methods of data analysis -Bayes theorem, neuro computing and pattern recognitio- is thoroughly examined. Next, several interesting generalizations of the the ory and new directions of research are presented. Furthermore application of rough sets in data mining, in particular, rule induction methods based on rough set theory is presented and discussed. Further important issue dis cussed in the monograph is rough set based data analysis, including study of decisions making in conflict situations. Last but not least, some recent engi neering applications of rough set theory are given. They include a proposal of rough set processor architecture organization for fast implementation of ba sic rough set operations and discussion of results concerning advanced image processing for unmanned aerial vehicle. Thus the monograph beside presenting wide spectrum of ongoing research in this area also points out new emerging areas of study and applications, which makes it a valuable source of information to all interested in this do main.

This Festschrift, dedicated to Cliff Jones, contains papers written by many of his closest collaborators. Cliff has an exceptional international standing for his groundbreaking research and leadership within the practice of formal methods, his career encompasses significant contributions to academia, industry, policy, and service. Cliff is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, ACM, BCS, and IET, and in 2015 he was the inaugural Fellow of the Formal Methods Europe association. His career has included industry research in the UK, Austria and Belgium, a PhD at the University of Oxford, and academic and research roles at the University of Cambridge and the University of Manchester, and since 1999 at Newcastle University. Throughout his career, he has championed the essential role of formalism in design processes. His collaboration at IBM in the 1970s led to the creation of the Vienna Development Method (VDM), a seminal contribution that has influenced both practical industry applications and theoretical advancements. Cliff was the founding editor of the ACM journal Formal Aspects of Computing, a founder of the Formal Methods symposium, and he played a pivotal role in the IFIP Working Groups on Programming Methodology and Verified Software. His policy advocacy has been instrumental in fostering public discourse on the reliability of computing systems. The 30 contributions in this volume are a snapshot of the many current scientific developments inspired by or built upon Cliff’s contributions.
