The global reality of suffering and death has always demanded an authentic theological response and impelled debate concerning Gods relationship to suffering, as well as the conceivability of the suffering of God. The scope and impact of this suffering in the last century have driven this debate to an acute pitch, demanding to know how one can speak rightly of God in view of the suffering that is inherent and inflicted in the cosmos. While in former ages, some looked to an omnipotent and impassible deus ex machina in answer to this question, many contemporary theologians have revised their understanding of God in relation to the world. With these theologians, Gloria Schaab proposes that a viable response to cosmic suffering is the recognition that the triune Christian God participates in the very sufferings of the cosmos itself. She sets her argument within theology and science dialogue and specifically within the work of scientist-theologian Arthur Peacocke. Informed by the understandings of evolutionary science, grounded within a panentheistic paradigm of the God-world relationship, and rooted within the Christian theological tradition, this work contends that the understanding of the Triune God as intimately involved with the suffering of the cosmos is viable and efficacious in view of the suffering of the cosmos and its creatures. It develops a female procreative model of the creative suffering of the Triune God, an ecological ethics based on the midwife model of care, and a pastoral model of threefold differentiation of suffering in God as steps toward Christian praxis in response to the mystery of God within the pain, suffering, and death of cosmic existence and human experience.

At the beginning was Light. Light - pure, distilled, triumphant and overwhelming in its unity and possibilities. Out of this Light came everything that we call Cosmos, Universe and Life. The story of the Universe is the story of the evolving Light, which is intertwined with Love. Love is not accidental but essential to the story of the Universe. Equally essential are sacred symbols, thinking and art. The story of the Universe is enthralling, fascinating, mysterious and yet simple. We need to have the eyes to see the beauty and the genius of Life, as it incessantly re-creates and transforms itself. The meaning of Life is simple. This meaning is the loom around which everything that exists is woven. Light is the divine denominator, which unites us all. We are truly one because we are all made of Light. This unity is tremendously reassuring and is a source of hope and optimism. If we need one single and sure beacon of hope, it is Light. Let There Be Light is a superbly crafted book that touches our core with its philosophy of Cosmic Creativity. A must read for everyone interested in understanding Life and its mystery and various aspects of evolution, this book also provides a timely wake-up call for us to understand the strengths and weaknesses of science as well as all religions which the book proclaims act as nothing but filters of Light. It encourages us to transcend such barriers and embrace true Light to rediscover ourselves. Welcome to the Journey!

Essay from the year 2024 in the subject Philosophy - Theoretical (Realisation, Science, Logic, Language), , language: English, abstract: The concept of nature as a pre-determined, rigidly-deterministic machine, comprised of eternal Platonic laws and constants handed down once-and-forever from 'on high', has dominated our philosophy and science for several millennia. During the past century paradoxes associated with quantum mechanics, the mysteries of dark matter, dark energy, the nature of consciousness, and the long-standing debate on the existence of free will, have called into question our previous assumptions. It is becoming apparent that a rigid, pre-determined cosmos of ‘being’ does not exist independently of our conscious perception and free will. It is proposed, rather, that the cosmos is a projection of the implicate order onto the explicate order of spacetime, of a fluid and creative entity that is eternally ‘becoming’ in which free will exists and plays a key role in molding its behavior. Behind our spacetime perception of reality as a machine governed by eternal mathematical laws and Turing computation, there is a pre-spacetime implicate order, the underlying reality of the self-creating implicate-order plenum PL and phi connectome PC computing as a Gödel Non-Turing/Non-algorithmic Phase-Shift Computational System GNPSCS. Via morphic resonance, persistent patterns and repeated conscious free-will choices form and alter annealed nested habit pathways of the phi connectome which are, then, continually projected back onto the explicate order of spacetime. There is resonance across space and time (entanglement) such that what happens in one place at one time is present every-where and every-when. Thus, the explicate and implicate orders are ‘locked’ in an eternal, flexible interplay of being and becoming such that we have moral responsibility because our conscious, free-will decisions affect the structure of the cosmos.

The essays in this book respond to Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka’s recent call to explore the relationship between the evolution of the universe and the process of self-individuation in the ontopoietic unfolding of life. The essays approach the sensory manifold in a number of ways. They show that theories of modern science become a strategy for the phenomenological study of works of art, and vice versa. Works of phenomenology and of the arts examine how individual spontaneity connects with the design(s) of the logos – of the whole and of the particulars – while the design(s) rest not on some human concept, but on life itself. Life’s pliable matrices allow us to consider the expansiveness of contemporary science, and to help create a contemporary phenomenological sense of cosmos.
