The Coming Day documents life at the edges of American society in ways that are both personal and universal in human experience. In this collection, poems stand at the crossroads of anthropology, theology, history, and ethnic identity to address issues of violence, poverty, immigrants’ rights, family life, drug addiction, cultural diversity, and the struggle and hope of those too long ignored. The craft in these poems keenly documents life across the vast landscape of the United States and parts of Latin America to effectively make the world of forgotten people comprehensible. Recinos’ collection seeks to give voice to the invisible people of the Americas born on God’s day off.

The new book in the Francis and Gordon Jones mysteries set in 1950’s NorfolkA witty spoof of the classic boy’s detective stories. Following on from The Voice of Doom (ISBN: 97817893285) There is something freshly appealing and charming about the Francis and Gordon Jones mysteries, compared by some to the works of E F Benson, with inevitable nods to Dorothy Sayers and Conan Doyle. The second in the series of their detective adventures, The Coming Day, has five new intriguing cases for the intrepid investigators to solve. A missing girl in a Cornish seaside town … the mysterious death of a man dressed as a woman in a fleapit cinema … the unravelling of an old murder trial… the arrival of a foreign doctor coinciding with communal disaster … the search for a missing photograph. With its host of regular characters in the little Norfolk village of Branlingham, including the Revd. Challis, Mrs Jones of Bramley apple pie and curious corset-making fame, the terrifyingly autocratic Lady Darting, the snooping postmistress Miss Simms and ravishingly handsome actor Rufus Wolfe, Wright has created what the Bookhound calls ‘a literary delight … Brilliantly funny, deliciously wicked and thoroughly enjoyable’. Inspired by Anthony Wilson’s famous 1950s radio characters Norman and Henry Bones, these are sunny stories with an irresistible mingling of comedy and, sometimes unexpectedly, deeper themes. In the current glut of crime writing, they are unlike anything else.

Slave narratives comprise a prominent tradition of American literature, shaping the form and themes of some of the most celebrated and controversial writing in the country’s history. The first slave narrative to become an international bestseller was the ‘Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano’, which introduced the slave ship through the innocent perspective of an African captive. With the rise of the abolition movement in the early nineteenth century, there was a demand for hard-hitting eyewitness accounts of the harsh realities of slavery. Numerous former slaves published detailed and engaging accounts of their enslavement and daring escapes to freedom. This collection provides the most notable slave narratives published on both sides of the Atlantic, spanning the mid eighteenth century to the modern era. From the innovative brilliance of Henry Brown’s escape in a box to Harriet Jacobs’ harrowing ordeal of sexual harassment; from Ellen Craft’s ingenious impersonation of a white slaver to William Still’s heroic accounts of the Underground Railroad; from Solomon Northup’s endurance through twelve years of slavery to Douglass’ seminal accounts of the slavery institution, these noble men and women have preserved their extraordinary tales of bravery, defiance and hope for countless generations. (Version 1) * Beautifully illustrated with images relating to Slave Narrative authors * Concise introductions to all the texts * 44 separate books, with individual contents tables * Rare accounts appearing for the first time in digital publishing * Images of how the books were first published, giving your eReader a taste of the original texts * Excellent formatting of the texts * Easily locate the stories you want to read * Includes the complete WPA Slave Narrative Collection, completed during the Great Depression, preserving over 2,300 accounts– available in no other collection * Ordering of texts into chronological order CONTENTS: The Narratives A Narrative of the Most Remarkable Particulars in the Life of James Albert Ukawsaw Gronniosaw (1772) The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano (1789) A Narrative of the Life and Adventures (1798) by Venture Smith The Blind African Slave (1810) by Benjamin F. New Creation Eschatology And The Land written by Steven L. James and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-27 with Religion categories.

What will the final state of the redeemed look like? Throughout the history of the church, conceptions of the final state have tended to minimize the promise of the new heavens and new earth. In contrast to the historical dominance of spiritual, heavenly, non-temporal conceptions of the final state, the last two decades have witnessed a rise in conceptions that include the redemption of material, earthly, and temporal reality. These “new creation” conceptions have included proposals regarding the fulfillment of Old Testament land promises. In New Creation Eschatology and the Land, Steven L. James argues that in recent new creation conceptions of the final state there is a logical inconsistency between the use of Old Testament texts to inform a renewed earth and the exclusion of the territory of Israel from that renewed earth. By examining a select group of new creationists, James shows that the exclusion of the territorial restoration of Israel in a new creation conception fails to appreciate the role of the particular territory in Old Testament prophetic texts and results in an inconsistent new creationism.

The Catechism Explained written by Francis Spirago and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1899 with Catechetics categories.

This Catechism is divided into three parts: The first part treats of faith, the second of morals, the third of the means of grace. In the first part Our Lord appears in His character of Teacher; in the second in His character of King; and in the third in His character of High Priest. And since this Catechism proposes as its primary object to answer the question, for what purpose are we here upon earth, thereby emphasizing and giving prominence to man's high calling and destiny, it is especially suited to the present day, when the pursuit of material interests, self-indulgence and pleasure, engrosses the attention of so many. This Catechism is in fact nothing more nor less than an abstract of Our Lord's teaching, and may be called a guide book for the Christian on the road to heaven. - Preface.
