Mr. Furnival does not seem to excel. as do most pottery specialists, in the gentle art of talking round his subject. He goes straight to the heart of it. and in giving the many and varied recipes, he practically pledges his own reputation, within certain well understood limits. on their practical application and worth. He says: "Respecting the particular series of recipes for such glazes published in the following pages, it is not claimed that they will under every possible set of conditions, favourable or adverse. yield products superior to those on the market, or beyond criticism. What is expected of them, as the result of many experiments, is that they will yield, to the exercise of equal skill and favour, results equal to the average of...
