"IN THE FOLLOWING PAGES the author deals with an exceedingly interesting subject in a most agreeable and instructive manner. His long experience with Arab horses in the East, in the West, on the ranch, in the park, and on Endurance Rides, fits him to speak with authority. I was one of the judges of the first Endurance Ride, conducted under rigid rules and active supervision, in this country, Mr. Harris rode an Arabian mare in this difficult contest, sixty miles per day, for five successive days, with two hundred pounds up, and brought her in in fine shape, to win first place. In addition to being a fine horseman and horsemaster, he is a renowned breeder of Arabian horses. "If one were in quest of accurate and complete information, historical or practical, about the Arab horse—data which would not glorify the Arab at the expense of fact, I should unhesitatingly refer him to the author. He owned the best Arab sire I have ever seen, whether in this country, Europe, or Asia. "He has a large stud farm of pure-bred Arabs. He also used his sires on mares of other breeding, or no breeding, with excellent results. "Whether one agrees with his conclusions or not, I know of no one better fitted to write of the merits and accomplishments of the Arab horse, without indulging in befogging breed-enthusiasm, than the author."

Co-authored by HRH Princess Alia, the eldest daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan, and the artist and author Peter Upton,ERoyal HeritageEtells the story of the Arab horse in Jordan, from the early days of the Bedouin tribes to the 21st century, a story closely associated with the Hashemite family of Jordan, direct descendants of the Prophet. The account also tells of the Arab Revolt of 1916, in which the Emirs Ali, Abdullah, Feisal and Zeid, withET E Lawrence, drove the Ottomans out of the region, and how some of the Hashemite mares became the foundation stock of the Royal Stud in Jordan.ERoyal HeritageEcovers many other adventures including the traumatic events which nearly led to the loss of the StudOs precious mares and describes how, despite these setbacks, the Royal Stud has flourished. In 1987 Princess Alia, Director of the Royal Stud, organised the first Arab horse show to be held in Arabia entitled OThe Arab Horse at Home.O It was an event which inspired other Arab countries to organise horse shows of their own. Princess Alia includes many fascinating personal reminiscences: about the horses she holds so dear, the people involved in the Stud through the years, the famous and infamous, family and friends, heads of state and handlers. The work is richly illustrated with paintings, drawings and rare photographs from old archives and private collections, as well as up-to-date portraits of the Stud and its horses. Peter Upton gives an in-depth account of the horses themselves; the breeding, lineage and preservation of the hugely important Jordanian bloodlines. A story of legend, romance and war,ERoyal HeritageEtells with passion for the first time the remarkable saga of the Arab horse in Jordan.

At the heart of the book are photographs of the horses themselves, arranged by geographical area. The Arab Horse written by Spencer Borden and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-24 with Pets categories.

Excerpt from The Arab Horse In the present work Mr. Spencer Borden brings together a most interesting mass of information regarding the relation of the Arab horse to the life and history of the Arabians, and he has kindly asked me to preface the work by speaking more particularly of the natural history and of the antiquity of this breed. About two years ago I began especially to study the Arabian after having devoted many years to the study of the horse in general. The anatomy, the origin, and the natural history of the Arab has naturally attracted less attention than the relation of the Arab to the origin of the thoroughbred racing horse. So I directed my attention especially to the structure of the animal as a perfect living machine, to the part it has played in the history of the world and to the domestication of horses from the earliest times.
