How can the practice of improvisation become the lens through which we view the world? The Applied Improvisation Mindset takes readers deep into the maturing field of Applied Improvisation (AI), with stories of 18 practitioners from five countries who embrace an improvisation mindset to create a more collaborative, equitable, sustainable, and joyous world. Myriad organizations have discovered how the mindset and skills applied by great improvisers onstage can reveal emergent, generative ways of interacting with others offstage. With case studies on developing presentation skills, reducing anxiety in teens, or preparing climate risk managers across the globe for the challenges ahead, this second volume serves as a valuable resource for both experienced and new AI facilitators. It is a primer for higher education and K-12 faculty combatting traditional teaching limitations and a practical “how to” for theatre practitioners, artists, educators, or anyone seeking to transform their organizations and communities.

This collection of Applied Improvisation stories and strategies draws back the curtain on an exciting, innovative, growing field of practice and research that is changing the way people lead, create, and collaborate. Applied Improvisation is the umbrella term widely used to denote the application of improvised theatre's theories, tenets, games, techniques, and exercises beyond conventional theatre spaces, to foster the growth and/or development of flexible structures, new mindsets, and a range of inter and intra-personal skills required in today's volatile and uncertain world. This edited collection offers one of the first surveys of the range of practice, featuring 12 in-depth case studies by leading Applied Improvisation practitioners and a foreword by Phelim McDermott and Lee Simpson. The contributors in this anthology are professional Applied Improvisation facilitators working in sectors as diverse as business, social science, theatre, education, law, and government. All have experienced the power of improvisation, have a driving need to share those experiences, and are united in the belief that improvisation can positively transform just about all human activity. Each contributor describes their practice, integrates feedback from clients, and includes a workbook component outlining some of the exercises used in their case study to give facilitators and students a model for their own application. This book will serve as a valuable resource for both experienced and new Applied Improvisation facilitators seeking to develop leaders and to build resilient communities, innovative teams, and vibrant organizations. For theatre practitioners, educators, and students, it opens up a new realm of practice and work.

Panarchy written by Lance H. Gunderson and has been published by Island Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Political Science categories.
Creating institutions to meet the challenge of sustainability is arguably the most important task confronting society; it is also dauntingly complex. Ecological, economic, and social elements all play a role, but despite ongoing efforts, researchers have yet to succeed in integrating the various disciplines in a way that gives adequate representation to the insights of each. Panarchy, a term devised to describe evolving hierarchical systems with multiple interrelated elements, offers an important new framework for understanding and resolving this dilemma. Panarchy is the structure in which systems, including those of nature (e.g., forests) and of humans (e.g., capitalism), as well as combined human-natural systems (e.g., institutions that govern natural resource use such as the Forest Service), are interlinked in continual adaptive cycles of growth, accumulation, restructuring, and renewal. These transformational cycles take place at scales ranging from a drop of water to the biosphere, over periods from days to geologic epochs. By understanding these cycles and their scales, researchers can identify the points at which a system is capable of accepting positive change, and can use those leverage points to foster resilience and sustainability within the system. This volume brings together leading thinkers on the subject -- including Fikret Berkes, Buz Brock, Steve Carpenter, Carl Folke, Lance Gunderson, C.S. Holling, Don Ludwig, Karl-Goran Maler, Charles Perrings, Marten Scheffer, Brian Walker, and Frances Westley -- to develop and examine the concept of panarchy and to consider how it can be applied to human, natural, and human-natural systems. Throughout, contributors seek to identify adaptive approaches to management that recognize uncertainty and encourage innovation while fostering resilience. The book is a fundamental new development in a widely acclaimed line of inquiry. It represents the first step in integrating disciplinary knowledge for the adaptive management of human-natural systems across widely divergent scales, and offers an important base of knowledge from which institutions for adaptive management can be developed. It will be an invaluable source of ideas and understanding for students, researchers, and professionals involved with ecology, conservation biology, ecological economics, environmental policy, or related fields.

Handbook On Japanese Military Forces written by United States. War Department and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with History categories.
"''Handbook on Japanese Military Forces' still represents the best single reference source on the wartime Japanese military available in the English language,' writes David C. Isby, in his introduction to the new edition of the invaluable guide. The handbook was first published by the US Army in 1942, but this new edition is taken from the vastly revised and expanded 1944 edition. By this time the USA had had time to assess its enemy and was coming to understand him; the vast knowledge that had now been acquired was distilled into the handbook. The handbook details the Japanese military system, field organisation, tactics, weapons and equipment, and the strengths and weaknesses that resulted from them. The strengths had been apparent from Pearl Harbor on, but by 1944 the weaknesses too were emerging, and both are detailed in the handbook. Issued to officers for briefings, and periodically updated, its purpose was to assist in the winning of the war and thus to be absolutely reliable for its users in combat. It contains sections on the Japanese special forces, on the military police, on uniforms and insignia and on conventional signs and abbreviations. As well as the Army, it covers the Japanese Air service, its tactics and organisation. 'Handbook of Japanese Military' was compiled by a team of US military officers integrating the research of others, each responsible for different sections; it contains input from the Marines and from British and Australian intelligence. 'Accuracy', writers David Isby, 'was more than a scholarly goal. It was literally a matter of life and death on the battlefield.' Impartial and packed with information, this handbook is as invaluable for the military student today as it was to the officers who depended upon it in World War II."--Front flap of book jacket.
