The present vol ume, in the Index to General Literature, covers some books issued previous to 1892, not prepared for record in time to be included in the a.l.a. Index vol ume. Special value will attach to the numerous sociological references, resulting from the indexing of the papers of the National Conference of Charities and Corree tions. The author-index includes a key to both subject-indexes, and distinguishes between articles in periodicals and portions of books by typographical differences which will be evident at once.
