This SpringerBrief presents the fundamental concepts of a specialized class of data stream, spatio-temporal data streams, and demonstrates their distributed processing using Big Data frameworks and platforms. It explores a consistent framework which facilitates a thorough understanding of all different facets of the technology, from basic definitions to state-of-the-art techniques. Key topics include spatio-temporal continuous queries, distributed stream processing, SQL-like language embedding, and trajectory stream clustering. Over the course of the book, the reader will become familiar with spatio-temporal data streams management and data flow processing, which enables the analysis of huge volumes of location-aware continuous data streams. Applications range from mobile object tracking and real-time intelligent transportation systems to traffic monitoring and complex event processing. Spatio-Temporal Data Streams is a valuable resource for researchers studying spatio-temporal data streams and Big Data analytics, as well as data engineers and data scientists solving data management and analytics problems associated with this class of data.

Query Processing On Spatio Temporal Data Streams From Moving Objects written by Tobias Leo Brandt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Rivers categories.

The amount of spatio-temporal data, i.e. location data from moving objects, that is available in real time is increasing continuously due to the expanding availability of small and cheap GPS-sensors as well as mobile internet connectivity. This work examines the processing of such data streams, for example, to identify objects that will probably move to close to each other. This is done with data stream management systems (DSMS) on the foundation of the interval approach together with the moving object algebra. The concept is implemented with an open source DSMS. The main idea of the approach is a generic algebra, which combines the concepts of the interval approach for data streams with the moving object algebra for moving object data. The resulting concept allows very flexible continuous spatio-temporal queries on data streams. The approach is evaluated with location data streams from AIS signals from vessels.

Situation recognition has been a major challenge in most domains for several decades. With the recent emergence of rapid data dissemination platforms like social media, blogs, and a push towards an Internet of Things, the amount of data about multiple facets of daily life has exploded. This presents an unprecedented opportunity to harness these data streams to determine situations in space and time. There are several challenges inherent in this goal. The data streams may originate from traditional as well as non-traditional sources. As such, these may manifest remarkable diversity in the media type and the granularity at which data are observed. Non-traditional sources like Twitter, Pinterest and micro-blogs allow virtually no control on when and where data should be sensed. One has no control over where to deploy these sensors in order to maximize coverage in space and time. The uncertainty associated with these data streams might not be known in advance. There is also the issue of how reliable the data might be, especially the one crowd-sourced from non-traditional sources. This work aims to develop a data-driven platform that allows application developers to use heterogeneous spatio-temporal data streams to estimate the underlying situation of interest and perform short term prediction on those. We introduce data structures to handle uncertainty in data which also facilitates a probabilistic treatment of estimation and prediction methods. Probabilistic approach also lets us handle missing values and data coverage issues by marginalizing the unknown spatio-temporal elements. The proposed framework uses context defined by the user to specify different models for different context. This is helpful in modeling estimation and prediction procedures as this does not adhere to a one-model-fits-all approach. There are also constructs to learn the relationships between observations and situations, and to characterize the noise associated with the observation data stream. We propose how one may estimate and predict recurrent situations along with incorporating the impacts of external events and factors which might affect the situation. As an application of this framework, we discuss how one may estimate the traffic speeds on various freeways, in the presence of disrupting factors like accidents and public events. We also apply the framework to estimate the popularity of the Democrats as compared to that of Republicans for the 2012 US Presidential elections. A third application predicts crimes in the City of Chicago based on previously recorded crimes.

With the proliferation of diverse mobile devices and development of platforms like the Web and social networks, the data world is clearly moving away from its original underpinning in cyberspace and merging into the physical space. Enormous amounts of data pertaining to different characteristics across space and time are being generated and shared. These heterogeneous spatio-temporal data streams can be used to detect real-world situations and help people in taking appropriate actions in time for saving lives and resources. To allow such applications, a generic information engine that is able to process massive heterogeneous spatio-temporal data streams could be very useful. Building such an engine requires creating effective data models to represent spatio-temporal data streams and designing convenient operators and an efficient query system to combine and process a massive number of streams. In this dissertation, we propose an information engine, named EventShop, for handling massive heterogeneous spatio-temporal data streams. First, we present the E-mage algebra, which consists of models for effectively representing spatial data and a set of expressive operators for processing streams, both based on a data representation called E-mage. Based on this algebra, we introduce the general system architecture and detailed component design in EventShop. In the context of the query system, we describe a cost-based multi-query optimization algorithm which allows discovery and sharing of re-usable computations and data sources among queries, based on computation and memory costs. We present the prototype system and demonstrate real-life and simulated applications, and we evaluate the efficiency of proposed multi-query optimization algorithms through extensive experiments. These applications and experiments show the efficacy of our work in processing spatio-temporal data streams about the physical world to satisfy various real needs in human life.

"This volume collects the papers presented at the first international conference dedicated to spatial and temporal reasoning in geographic space, entitled "GIS: from space to territory - theories and methods of spatio-temporal reasoning". Within the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA, one of the supporters of the conference) the importance of spatial and temporal reasoning was recognized several years ago. Initial research found that spatial reasoning in geographic or large-scale space is different from spatial reasoning in small-scale space, as usually dealt with in robotics and expertsystems. Temporal reasoning has attracted interest in the artificial intelligence community. The volume also includes two invited papers: "Do people understand spatial concepts: the case of first-order primtives" by R.G. Golledge, and "Temporal databases" by R.T. Snodgrass."--PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE.
