""Space Mining Future"" presents a comprehensive exploration of asteroid mining as the next frontier of resource extraction, examining how this emerging industry could revolutionize human resource acquisition and enable deep space exploration. The book carefully weaves together technical analysis, economic considerations, and regulatory frameworks to demonstrate how asteroid mining could transition from science fiction to reality within the next three decades. Through systematic progression, the book builds a compelling case for space mining by first establishing fundamental concepts in space physics and mineral geology before delving into more complex topics. Readers discover fascinating insights about asteroid composition based on meteorite analysis and recent sample return missions, along with detailed discussions of extraction technologies including autonomous robotics and in-situ resource utilization. The book's practical approach focuses on achievable advances rather than speculative concepts, making it particularly valuable for readers interested in the intersection of space technology and economic opportunity. The narrative bridges multiple disciplines, from aerospace engineering to economics, while maintaining accessibility for readers with basic scientific literacy. What sets this work apart is its evidence-based analysis of current mineral reserves, projected demand curves, and technology advancement rates, all presented through clear examples and practical applications. By addressing both the opportunities and challenges of space mining, including technical limitations and regulatory hurdles, the book serves as both a technical reference and strategic planning resource for professionals and informed enthusiasts alike.

Space Mining And Its Regulation written by Ram S. Jakhu and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-12 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book addresses the complex technical challenges presented by remote space mining in terms of robotics, remote power systems, space transport, IT and communications systems, and more. It also addresses the difficult oversight and regulatory issues that face states and non-state enterprises that would take on the perilous task of obtaining natural resources from the Moon and asteroids. An increasing number of countries are becoming involved in space-related activities that were previously carried out primarily by the United States and the USSR (now the Russian Federation). How these regulatory endeavors might be handled in international treaties, standards, codes of conduct or other means have become a truly international political issue. And there is yet another issue. In the past, space activities traditionally fell under the exclusive domain of government. But the last few years have seen the emergence of the private sector of "space entrepreneurs." This poses many challenges for the pre-existing governance regimes and state-based conceptions of international law. This book examines the adequacies and ambiguities in treaty provisions and national laws and in currently accepted practices involving the growing exploration and exploitation of space-based natural resources.

Global Space Governance An International Study written by Ram S. Jakhu and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-12 with Political Science categories.

This book is based on the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Global Space Governance study commissioned by the 2014 Montreal Declaration that called upon civil society, academics, governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders to undertake an international interdisciplinary study. The study took three years to complete. It examines the drivers of space regulations and standards, key regulatory problems, and especially addresses possible improvements in global space governance. The world's leading experts led the drafting of chapters, with input from academics and knowledgeable professionals in the public and private sectors, intergovernmental organizations, and nongovernmental organizations from all the regions of the world with over 80 total participants. This book and areas identified for priority action are to be presented to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and it is hoped will be considered directly or indirectly at the UNISPACE+50 event in Vienna, Austria, in 2018. The report, a collective work of all the contributors, includes objective analysis and frank statements expressed without pressure of political, national, and occupational concerns or interest. It is peer-reviewed and carefully edited to ensure its accuracy, preciseness, and readability. It is expected that the study and derivative recommendations will form the basis for deliberations and decisions at international conferences and meetings around the world on the theme of global space governance. This will hopefully include future discussion at the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

The Oxford Handbook Of The New Space Economy written by and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-12-18 with Business & Economics categories.

This handbook on the "New" Space Economy (NSE) offers the first comprehensive analysis of the contemporary space economy. The "new" is characterized by commercialization, greater participation of the private sector, innovation, and increased engagement of national governments. Using multiple approaches, the volume conceptualizes the boundaries of an emerging field of inquiry, characterized by continuity and change and involving terrestrial and extraterrestrial activities. It covers the fundamental economic, institutional, and technological dynamics and assesses the socio-economic impact of the NSE. Largely a US and European phenomenon, the evolution of the NSE in other spacefaring nations such as China, India, Japan, and Russia is also examined. In The Oxford Handbook of the New Space Economy, chapters by both academics and practitioners systematically address the changing institutional arrangements, interactions between public and private actors, and the role of innovations and entrepreneurship. As constellations of satellites for earth observations, telecommunications, the internet, GPS, and other civilian applications tackle climate change and monitor natural disasters, the unsustainability of space activities due to orbital congestion and space debris is a reality. The 1967 UN Outer Space Treaty, which views space as a "global commons," needs revisiting to address regulatory challenges in space mining and other uses of extraterrestrial resources. This volume advances the state of knowledge on the dynamics of an emerging new space economy, identifies key stakeholders, and opens up future research areas for policymaking.
