The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads to the emergence of edge computing systems that push the training and deployment of AI models to the edge of networks for reduced bandwidth cost, improved responsiveness, and better privacy protection, allowing for the ubiquitous AI that can happen anywhere and anytime. Motivated by the above trend, this book introduces a new computing paradigm, the Social Edge Computing (SEC), that empowers human-centric edge intelligent applications by revolutionizing the computing, intelligence, and the training of the AI models at the edge. The SEC paradigm introduces a set of critical human-centric challenges such as the rational nature of edge device owners, pronounced heterogeneity of the edge devices, real-time AI at the edge, human and AI interaction, and the privacy of the edge users. The book addresses these challenges by presenting a series of principled models and systems that enable the confluence of the computing capabilities of devices and the domain knowledge of the people, while explicitly addressing the unique concerns and constraints from humans. Compared to existing books in the field of edge computing, the vision of this book is unique: we focus on the social edge computing (SEC), an emerging paradigm at the intersection of edge computing, AI, and social computing. This book discusses the unique vision, challenges and applications in SEC. To our knowledge, keeping humans in the loop of edge intelligence has not been systematically reviewed and studied in an existing book. The SEC vision generalizes the current machine-to-machine interactions in edge computing (e.g., mobile edge computing literature), and machine-to-AI interactions (e.g., edge intelligence literature) into a holistic human-machine-AI ecosystem.

This book explores the most recent Edge and Distributed Cloud computing research and industrial advances, settling the basis for Advanced Swarm Computing developments. It features the Swarm computing concepts and realizes it as an Ad-hoc Edge Cloud architecture. Unlike current techniques in Edge and Cloud computing that solely view IoT connected devices as sources of data, Swarm computing aims at using the compute capabilities of IoT connected devices in coordination with current Edge and Cloud computing innovations. In addition to being more widely available, IoT-connected devices are also quickly becoming more sophisticated in terms of their ability to carry considerable compute and storage resources. Swarm computing and Ad-hoc Edge Cloud take full advantage of this trend to create on-demand, autonomic and decentralized self-managed computing infrastructures. Focusing on cognitive resource and service management, the book examines the specific research challenges of the Swarm computing approach, related to the characteristics of IoT connected devices that form the infrastructure. It also offers academics and practitioners insights for future research in the fields of Edge and Swarm computing.

Game Theory For Intelligent Network Control Paradigm written by Kim, Sungwook and has been published by IGI Global this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2026-01-21 with Computers categories.
Game theory emerges as a mathematical framework for analyzing and optimizing decision-making in complex, interactive environments, making it well-suited for intelligent network control paradigms. As modern networks become autonomous, traditional control strategies struggle when addressing issues like resource allocation and conflict resolution. Game theory provides tools to model and predict strategic interactions among multiple intelligent agents within a network, enabling robust, adaptive, and efficient control mechanisms. This shift towards game-theoretic network control paves the way for self-organizing, scalable, and context-aware networks capable of meeting the demands of next-generation technologies. Game Theory for Intelligent Network Control Paradigm explores applications of game theory, current trends, understudied areas, and new directions for further investigation. It presents an introduction on game theory with an emphasis on applications for intelligent control issues. This book covers topics such as network control, cloud computing, and learning algorithms, and is a useful resource computer engineers, business owners, academicians, researchers, and scientists.
