This book gives up-to-date information on the liquid-glass transition in various disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, polymer science, and computer science. The book contains review articles by leading scientists and contributed papers by authors in the forefront of research. The systems studied covered almost all states of matter including solids, liquids, complex solutions, polymers, and suspensions. Significant progress was made on a variety of topics. Among these were experimental and theoretical studies of colloidal systems; experiments on glass to glass transitions in micellar systems; theoretical studies of polyelectrolytes and polymer melts and networks; theoretical and computer studies of hydrodynamics in suspensions and Rayleigh-Taylor and Rayleigh-Couette instabilities; theoretical and experimental studies of the glass transition; computer simulations of the glass transition in thin films; vibrational motions in glass forming liquids and glasses; the effects of shear on supercooled liquids; engineering and experimental studies of metallic glasses; mode-coupling studies of complex glass formation; and Lorentz gas studies of the translational and rotational motion of a rigid rod.

Complex Time Delay Systems written by Fatihcan M. Atay and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-03-24 with Science categories.

One of the major contemporary challenges in both physical and social sciences is modeling, analyzing, and understanding the self-organization, evolution, behavior, and eventual decay of complex dynamical systems ranging from cell assemblies to the human brain to animal societies. The multi-faceted problems in this domain require a wide range of methods from various scienti?c disciplines. There is no question that the inclusion of time delays in complex system models considerably enriches the challenges presented by the problems. Although this inclusion often becomes inevitable as real-world applications demand more and more realistic m- els, the role of time delays in the context of complex systems so far has not attracted the interest it deserves. The present volume is an attempt toward ?lling this gap. There exist various useful tools for the study of complex time-delay systems. At the forefront is the mathematical theory of delay equations, a relatively mature ?eld in many aspects, which provides some powerful techniques for analytical inquiries, along with some other tools from statistical physics, graph theory, computer science, dynamical systems theory, probability theory, simulation and optimization software, and so on. Nevertheless, the use of these methods requires a certain synergy to address complex systems problems, especially in the presence of time delays.

Nonlinearities In Complex Systems written by Sushanta Dattagupta and has been published by Alpha Science International, Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Mathematics categories.

This book addresses various aspects of nonlinearities in complex systems, ie. systems comprising simple (possibly nonlinear) elements, which combine to give a complex overall behaviour. Complex systems have come to play a crucial role in computer science, physics, chemistry and biology and have been the subject of much recent interest. Most of the chapters in this book are pedagogical reviews of research problems in the area of complex systems and should be of interest to students and researchers in science and engineering. The articles cover a wide range of subjects including plastic flow of material, disordered systems, surface growth phenomena, pattern formation in spatially extended systems, atomic clusters and quantum stochastic phenomena.
