A renowned sculptor from China, Professor Wu Weishan stands out in China's art arena — indeed, in the entire cultural fraternity — with his unique sculpting styles and original theoretical views. His series of creative works that feature China's historical and cultural celebrities showcase his freehand sculpting technique and his concept of the “eight major styles of Chinese sculpture”, which directly challenge the phenomenon of contemporary art steeped so heavily in values derived from Western popular art and Russian realism. This book documents the different stages of Wu Weishan's pursuits, struggles, and creations. It records his dealings with eminent figures in the science, cultural, and art arenas, such as Yang Zhenning, Ji Xianlin, Wu Guanzhong, and Xiong Bingming. His art notes, excerpts from his theoretical essays, and images of some selected sculptures are also included. From here, readers can get a glimpse of an artist's inner world during his growing years — how he devoutly approached life and art against the backdrop of contemporary society and culture./a

"Artists of any ilk can be extremely opinionated when it comes to what they do, how they do it, and what it might mean. Sculptors are no exception. Modern Sculpture: Artists in Their Own Words presents a selection of manifestos, documents, statements, articles, and interviews from more than ninety subjects, including an ample selection of contemporary sculptors. With this book, editor Douglas Dreishpoon defers to sculptors, whose varied points of view illuminate the medium's perpetual transformation-from object to action, concept to phenomenon-over the course of two centuries. Each chapter progresses in chronological sequence to highlight the dominant stylistic, philosophical, and thematic threads that unite each kindred group. The result is a distinctive, artist-centric history and survey of sculpture that showcases the expansive dimensions and malleability of the medium"--

Jiro Takamatsu written by Lisa Le Feuvre and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Installations (Art) categories.

Jiro Takamatsu (1936-98) is central to the development of post-war art in Japan. He expanded points into volume, brought sculptural actions into the life of the city, and made shadows and perspective tangible.0'The Temperature of Sculpture' is the first institutional solo exhibition of Takamatsu outside of his home country, presenting over seventy works made between 1961 and 1977.0Takamatsu sought out the interplay between presence and absence, carefully thinking through relationships between artwork and its perceiver. He turned to sculpture in 1961, applying sculptural thinking to see how objects might change their ?temperature?.0The materials Takamatsu chose were always ready at hand. Sometimes they were tangible - everyday objects such as bottles, cloth, string, stones or furniture. Other times they had a strong association to sculptural traditions - such as marble, wood, concrete and iron. Significantly, he made use of intangible properties - perspective, shadows and numbers. These he made material and metaphorical in objects, events and drawings, giving form to the imponderables of space and time.00Exhibition: Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, UK (13.07. - 22.10.2017).
