Situating the African American learning experience within the stream of historic enslavement and hundreds of years of institutionalized racism, this timely book introduces antiracist foundations for teaching in the 21st century. The authors take a holistic approach that uses Afrocentricity to identify and address critical omissions and distortions in school curricula. Drawing on empirical findings from a high-performing 100% African American school, they identify what teachers and students recognize as successful features of the schools’ approach, including a unique learning environment, support systems, spiritual affirmations, evidences of Black education, a reframing of Afrocentricity, and education that promotes positive Black identity. This much-needed book demonstrates the healing power of education; provides evidence of social, emotional, and psychological transformation within the learning experience; and frames education as a tool for liberation. Book Features: Offers a clear chronological analysis of Black education in the United States and across the Diaspora.Includes the perceptions and experiences of students and teachers at a successful Afrocentric school. Provides the tools needed to teach multicultural histories in an antiracist way.Examines the benefits of Afrocentric curricula and the role of corrective history in promoting positive Black identity. Explores the intersections of precolonial history, student achievement, and Afrocentric education.

Strengths Based Approaches In Indigenous Education written by Marnee Shay and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-09-26 with Social Science categories.

This book brings together Indigenous thinkers and scholars with Western theories and practice frameworks to propose a theory for a strengths approach to knowledge production in Indigenous education. The text traverses disciplines and fields that have advanced strengths-based approaches in providing practitioners, researchers, and policy makers a way of reframing problems to start from a place of strength and capital. Strengths approaches have gained traction in various contexts in Indigenous education; however, this book is the first of its kind to explore the field more broadly and consider its potential for a way forward in Indigenous education. Using existing scholarship to consider how Indigenous education has been positioned in the past and present, it puts forward compelling reasons why new approaches grounded in strengths-based approaches are necessary for reimagining the possibilities for Indigenous education. Offering a theoretically robust framework, this is an essential resource for educators, researchers, and policy makers interested in transformative action in Indigenous education.

Esodus written by Asar Imhotep and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-01 with Poetry categories.

Inspired by classical African meta-physics, Asar Imhotep (The Black Lotus) has compiled a compelling collection of essays and poetry that reflects his insights and perspectives on various issues, including the relevance of Satan, the error in obtaining freedom, the conceptual conductivity of the human body, the importance of emotions during a rite of passage, and the self-destructive nature of allowing your enemy to become your deity. Asar introduces to us a poetic discourse that is deeply rooted in an ethnopoetics whose tradition has heavily influenced the art of our time, such as Hip Hop. The themes range widely from the metaphysical (I am that I am), to the bliss of love (Let me love you), to the power of self-affirmation (I'm so Black), to the pure indulgence in classic word wizardry (Still not convinced). Esodus: Internal Reflections and Conversations with the Sun is sure to inspire you to think big, think often, think critically, and expand the boundaries of your imagination.

This volume presents the first translation into a western language of the earliest known version of the great Tibetan history known as the dBa'/sBa bzhed. The original version of this famous text, traditionally attributed to sBa/dBa'gSal snang, is believed to have been written in the 9th century, but until now the only extant versions, which are much reworked and which date back to the 12th and 14th centuries, have never been translated into English. In 1997, in Tibet, as the result of the co-operation between the Tibetan Academy of Social Sciences and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, a manuscript of 31 folios came to light in Lhasa bearing the title dBa'bzhed, and the telling subtitle: The Royal Narrative (bka'mchid) Concerning the Bringing of the Buddha's Doctrine to Tibet. This text is now presented as a joint publication by the two Academies in a facsimile edition with an annotated translation. The outline of the events narrated by the dBa'bzhed corresponds to a large extent to the known versions of the sBa'bzhed: a detailed account of the foundation of the monastery of bSam yas (the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet, consecrated in A.D.779), the famous doctrinal debate which took place there in A.D. 792 -794 and the political and religious conflicts which relate to the establishing of Buddhism as the dominant religion in Tibet during the reign of Khri srong lde btsan. There are, however, considerable differences in the dBa'bzhed from the extant sBa'bzhed versions in the mention of numerous historical details and in the narrative. These elements indicate that the dBa'bzhed pre-dates the extant sBa'bzhed versions, or at least represents an early and different elaboration drawn from the ancient sources of this traditio
