Reactive Modifiers For Polymers written by S. Al-Malaika and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-06-30 with Science categories.

There is considerable interest within the polymer industry in developing methods to modify existing polymer systems to achieve improvements in their functional or engineering properties. The chemical treatment of polymers, either prior to or during processing, represents an inexpensive and rapid way of achieving these modifications, and a great deal of research is underway, directed at improving both the understanding of the processes involved and the development of the practical techniques employed. The improvements obtained by chemical treatment range from subtle alteration of the chemical properties of a polymer to wholesale changes in the physical, mechanical and chemical properties, with the current favourable economics ensuring that industry will continue to exploit the technique in the search for improved polymer materials. Written by an international team of authors, drawn from both basic and applied research programmes in industry and academia, and with a strong emphasis on the underlying chemistry, this book forms a timely, concise and accessible evaluation of the most promising technologies developed to date. Chemists, technologists, materials' scientists and engineers working in all areas of the polymer industry, along with academic researchers in those fields, will find this book an essential source of reference in the course of their work.

This volume, the fourth in a series which began in 1979, covers a greater variety of subjects than any previous single volume. The basis of selection has been topical interest; hence the tailor-making of polymers to develop specific properties, methods of improving com pound processability and the use of rubbers in the oil industry are featured alongside a discussion of safety aspects. We have again sought the cooperation of the foremost authorities on the chosen subjects and have been delighted at the response which has yielded a list of authors of international repute. A. w. K. This is an updated version of the book first published in 1995. The use of particulate fillers in polymers has a long history, and they continue to play a very important role today. In the relatively short time since the publication of the first edition of this book, much has changed and all the chapters have been updated and revised, and a completely new chapter covering the latest developments in nano-filler technology is included. The aim of this book is to provide a guide to the fundamentals of the use of particulate fillers, which is accessible to people from the many different industries and disciplines who have an interest in the subject. Chapters cover: Selection and Use of Particulate Fillers Types of Particulate Filler Filler Surfaces and their Characterisation Surface Modification and Surface Modifiers Preparation and Mixture Characterisation of Mineral Filler Polymer Compounds Particulate Fillers as Flame Retardants Particulate Fillers in Elastomers Particulate Fillers in Thermoplastics Particulate Fillers in Thermosets Composites Using Nano-Fillers

Metal Containing Polymeric Systems written by John E. Sheats and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

Research on metal-containing polymers began in the early 1960's when several workers found that vinyl ferrocene and other vinylic transition metal u -com plexes would undergo polymerization under the same conditions as conventional organic monomers to form high polymers which incorporated a potentially reactive metal as an integral part of the polymer structures. Some of these materials could act as semi-conducters and pos sessed one or two dimensional conductivity. Thus appli cations in electronics could be visualized immediately. Other workers found that reactions used to make simple metal chelates could be used to prepare polymers if the ligands were designed properly. As interest in homo geneous catalysts developed in the late 60's and early 70's, several investigators began binding homogeneous catalysts onto polymers, where the advantage of homo geneous catalysis - known reaction mechanisms and the advantage of heterogeneous catalysis - simplicity and ease of recovery of catalysts could both be obtained. Indeed the polymer matrix itself often enhanced the selectivity of the catalyst.

Physical Testing Of Rubber written by R. P. Brown and has been published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Reasons for testing rubber materials and products fall into four categories: quality control, provision of design data, prediction of service performance and investigation of failure. Test methods have been standardised for almost all properties likely to be relevant to rubbers, and the appropriate standards are listed in this report. An additional indexed section containing several hundred abstracts from the Rapra Polymer Library database provides useful references for further reading.
