This study examines the impacts on the Prairie Provinces of climatic changes, and the possible adaptations or responses to those changes. It focuses on eight key climate-sensitive areas or sectors selected for analysis: agriculture, forestry, energy resources, insurance, recreation/tourism, water supply and demand, aquatic ecosystems, and wildlife/biodiversity. The first two chapters set out the regional context, with information on geography, population, economics, and climate. The next three chapters review regional climate sensitivities, impacts of climate change, and adaptation to climate for each of the areas or sectors. The final chapter suggests opportunities for further research. The appendix includes a summary of knowledge of proxy records of post-glacial climate in the Prairie Provinces.

This volume describes current understanding of the impacts that climate change and variability will have on all aspects of the Northwest Territories/Nunavut physical & biological environment and its socio-economic activities, and of existing or potential adaptation options. The initial sections review the region's socio-economic context, ecozones, and climate, and describe various scenarios of climate change as determined from global climate change models. Section D assesses impacts of and adaptation to climate change in the physical environment (hydrology, permafrost, sea ice, sea level & coastal processes, freshwater ice), in terrestrial & marine ecosystems, and in such socio-economic sectors as oil & gas, transportation, construction, tourism, forestry, and fisheries. The final section discusses opportunities for further research.

Global Alarm written by United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (Secretariat) and has been published by United Nations Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Nature categories.

After a devastating dust storm that swept across Northern China in 2000, there was much interest in examining and analyzing experiences with dust storm mitigation, prevention, forecasting and control. What has emerged from the writings collected in this publication is that sand and dust storms are both a symptom and cause of desertification. They are often an early warning that things are going wrong. Combating these storms demands political, social, biological, economic, educational and engineering approaches as well as the physical effort that has dominated efforts in the past. This publication provides an analysis of the factors contributing to dust and sandstorms and also provides examples of how the menace can be brought under control through a series of measures, ranging from mechanical interventions and bio-remediation to policy change and legislative back up.

Holocene Climate And Environmental Change In The Palliser Triangle written by Geological Survey of Canada and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Climatic changes categories.

The Palliser Triangle extends from south-west Manitoba to south central Alberta, and is one of the most climatically sensitive regions in Canada. There is evidence & concern that climate change is likely to affect the Triangle. The geological record contains unique information on the impacts of a wide range of past climate changes. This paleoenvironmental record, and the context it provides for assessing the impacts of future climate change, is the focus of the Palliser Triangle Global Change Project. This bulletin contains 18 papers related to two major objectives of that Project: reconstruction of Holocene climatic and hydrological changes, and evaluation of the relationships between climate & landscape processes. The first paper is an overview of the Project and a broad synthesis of major results. The next nine papers are devoted to records of past climate & hydrological change documented in paleolimnological and hydrogeological studies. The rest of the papers focus on geomorphic processes in the Triangle and how these respond to climate forcing.
