Projects In Scientific Computation written by Richard E. Crandall and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-06-22 with Computers categories.

This interdisciplinary book provides a compendium of projects, plus numerous example programs for readers to study and explore. Designed for advanced undergraduates or graduates of science, mathematics and engineering who will deal with scientific computation in their future studies and research, it also contains new and useful reference materials for researchers. The problem sets range from the tutorial to exploratory and, at times, to "the impossible". The projects were collected from research results and computational dilemmas during the authors tenure as Chief Scientist at NeXT Computer, and from his lectures at Reed College. The content assumes familiarity with such college topics as calculus, differential equations, and at least elementary programming. Each project focuses on computation, theory, graphics, or a combination of these, and is designed with an estimated level of difficulty. The support code for each takes the form of either C or Mathematica, and is included in the appendix and on the bundled diskette. The algorithms are clearly laid out within the projects, such that the book may be used with other symbolic numerical and algebraic manipulation products

This book demonstrates scientific computing by presenting twelve computational projects in several disciplines including Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Science, Computer Aided Design, Signal Processing and more. Each follows typical steps of scientific computing, from physical and mathematical description, to numerical formulation and programming and critical discussion of results. The text teaches practical methods not usually available in basic textbooks: numerical checking of accuracy, choice of boundary conditions, effective solving of linear systems, comparison to exact solutions and more. The final section of each project contains the solutions to proposed exercises and guides the reader in using the MATLAB scripts available online.

An essential contribution to the study of the history of computers, this work identifies the computer's impact on the physical, biological, cognitive, and medical sciences. References fundamental to the understudied area of the history of scientific computing also document the significant role of the sciences in helping to shape the development of computer technology. More broadly, the many resources on scientific computing help demonstrate how the computer was the most significant scientific instrument of the 20th century. The only guide of its kind covering the use and impact of computers on the the physical, biological, medical, and cognitive sciences, it contains more than 1,000 annotated citations to carefully selected secondary and primary resources. Historians of technology and science will find this a very useful resource. Computer scientists, physicians, biologists, chemists, and geologists will also benefit from this extensive bibliography on the history of computer applications and the sciences.

Parallel Scientific Computing written by Jack Dongarra and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994-11-23 with Computers categories.

This volume presents the proceedings of the First International workshop on Parallel Scientific Computing, PARA '94, held in Lyngby, Denmark in June 1994. It reports interdisciplinary work done by mathematicians, scientists and engineers working on large-scale computational problems in discussion with computer science specialists in the field of parallel methods and the efficient exploitation of modern high-performance computing resources. The 53 full refereed papers provide a wealth of new results: an up-to-date overview on high-speed computing facilities, including different parallel and vector computers as well as workstation clusters, is given and the most important numerical algorithms, with a certain emphasis on computational linear algebra, are investigated.

Like a pianist who practices from a book of Ÿtudes, readers of Programming Projects in C for Students of Engineering, Science, and Mathematics will learn by doing. Written as a tutorial on how to think about, organize, and implement programs in scientific computing, this book achieves its goal through an eclectic and wide-ranging collection of projects. Each project presents a problem and an algorithm for solving it. The reader is guided through implementing the algorithm in C and compiling and testing the results. It is not necessary to carry out the projects in sequential order. The projects?contain suggested algorithms and partially completed programs for implementing them to enable the reader to exercise and develop skills in scientific computing;?require only a working knowledge of undergraduate multivariable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra; and?are written in platform-independent standard C, and the Unix command-line is used to illustrate compilation and execution. The primary audience of this book is graduate students in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences. The book will also be of interest to advanced undergraduates and working professionals who wish to exercise and hone their skills in programming mathematical algorithms in C. A working knowledge of the C programming language is assumed.
