Sustainable aviation fuels have the potential to make an essential contribution to decarbonizing the aviation sector and play an important role in strengthening the circular bioeconomy. This book presents recent advances and challenges in sustainable aviation fuel, with contributions from a global group of industry experts exploring alternative fuel technologies, feedstocks and conversion processes, combustion performance and emissions, and the technical and environmental challenges of implementing the use of alternative fuels for aviation. The book presents sustainability assessments, including techno-economic analyses and lifecycle assessments on developing sustainable aviation fuels from renewable sources, mainly from second and third-generation biomass feedstocks. Sustainable Aviation Fuels: Recent Advances and Future Challenges provides an excellent overview of the aviation and green energy sectors and is an invaluable resource for researchers and industry practitioners working on commercially viable sustainable aviation fuels. The book will also provide a foundation for graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and professionals working in the broader fields of sustainable energy.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector, the White House announced a SAF Grand Challenge in September 2021. The Grand Challenge goal is to supply 3 billion gallons of SAF per year by 2030 and 100 percent of expected domestic commercial jet fuel use by 2050. This report (1) discusses the state of SAF production and use for the U.S. commercial aviation industry and factors shaping this market, and (2) identifies how federal agencies have supported SAF and assesses how they will monitor progress toward Grand Challenge goals. GAO recommends that the Departments of Transportation, Energy, and Agriculture develop and incorporate performance measures into the Grand Challenge roadmap.

Towards Sustainable Aviation written by Paul Upham and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-25 with Political Science categories.

Aviation is integral to the global economy but it is also one of the main obstacles to environmentally sustainable development. It is one of the world's fastest growing - and most polluting - industries. What can be done to retain the economic and other benefits it brings, without the associated pollution, noise, congestion and loss of countryside? In this volume, industry, policy and research experts examine how to address the problems, and what it would take to achieve genuinely sustainable aviation - looking at technological, policy and demand-management options. Without far-reaching changes the problems caused by aviation can only multiply and worsen. This work seeks to take an important step in diagnosing the problems and in pointing towards their solutions.
