Rhetoric And Resistance In The Corporate Academy written by Christopher Carter and has been published by Hampton Press (NJ) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Business & Economics categories.

Rhetoric and Resistance in the Corporate Academy analyzes the political and legal struggles between labor movements and school administrators over the rise of part-time and temporary jobs in higher education. Focusing particular attention on the labor of writing instruction, Carter finds among literacy workers both a deeply exploited segment of the campus population and a vector of resistance to the hegemony of flexible hiring. Contrary to visions of ivory tower seclusion, he traces continuities between teachers' and students' experiences as corporate employees, contending that their frequently insecure positions, inadequate working conditions, minimal benefits, and marginalized voices constitute grounds for political alliance. Carter then outlines a labor theory of agency that entails long-range collaboration among tenure-line faculty, part-time and non-tenure-track teachers, and student social movements, listening always for harmonies as well as dissonances among their modes of argument.

There has been virtually little discussion about how Judaism, whether as a religious doctrine or cultural identity, has influenced the field of composition studies. This chasm in composition scholarship is surprising, given that composition studies has been a discipline that has vigorously claimed to embrace and advocate a policy of diversity. This book explores the myriad configurations of Judaic influences in composition studies that have yet to be articulated, but that are made manifest in the theory and pedagogy of radical/critical teaching, service-learning, and narratives of literacy, identity, and politics. Further, the text explores how Judaic rhetorical texts can be used to reconstruct traditional rhetoric through its use of language, style, and symbolism.

This book brings a diverse group of scholars together to discuss how composition studies should evolve in the context of ongoing changes related to higher education. These changes include new shifts in student demographics, increasing demands for accountability in educational outcomes, continuing expectations that a university education will lead to a good job, questions about the utility of composition, and more. Such commonly cited changes have been occurring for quite some time, creating the necessity for compositionists to continually re-evaluate their approaches to writing instruction. The editors believe that composition studies has entered an exciting period of change with opportunities to consider new places and purposes for writing instruction.

This is the first book length attempt to address the role creativity plays in writing centers. Beginning with the premise that creativity has the potential to make work and learning environments more productive - and possibly more dangerous - the ideals in this collection will complicate visions of what writing centers can and should be. Striking a balance between theory and practice, readers will learn about creative tutor training and staff meeting activities, how to use toys to tutor and how to tutor creative writers, and, finally, how to implement creative outreach programs. Those who are in search of ways to infuse their centers with creativity and fun will find this book to be an invaluable, inspirational resource.

Basic Writing In America written by Nicole Pepinster Greene and has been published by Hampton Press (NJ) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Education categories.

Basic Writing in America, published three decades after Mina Shaughnessy's ""Errors and Expectations"", presents the kind of educational stories envisioned by The City University of New York's Patricia Laurence. Each of these stories has its own unique setting, conflict and outcome. Yet together they give a powerful and dramatic portrait of basic writing in four-year colleges and universities across the country. In the Introduction the editors argue that basic writing programs involved a new concept of writing remediation. Receiving impetus from the American civil rights movement, these programs defined postsecondary education, not in terms of an investment for society, but as an individual right. Indeed, a major purpose of basic writing was to facilitate the integration of underrepresented groups into America's colleges and universities. The chapters describe the often hostile responses to basic writing and its students; the low status of basic writing programs within English departments and universities; clashes within the basic writing field itself; pedagogical developments in composition as applied to basic writing, and the professionalization of basic writing faculty. They also show, as years pass, the raising of college admission standards, the elimination or downsizing of basic writing programs, and the channeling of less qualified students to two-year colleges. But in a number of institutions there are also innovations and successes, including the emergence of a new type of basic writing program - one that is more integrated with the college or university and that offers learning support to a wider range of students.

This study views the history of error in composition instruction through a reader's rather than a writer's perspective, and in so doing, documents the manner in which our visions of error and perceptions of student writers who produce error have both transformed and remained static over the course of 130 years. A central conclusion derived from this is an assertion that error is largely produced by readers of student writers, rather than student writers themselves.

Re Mapping Narrative written by Gian S. Pagnucci and has been published by Hampton Press (NJ) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Computers categories.

This volume is an exploration of the future of narrative discourse. The authors have identified six potential paths, drawing patterns of narrative and visual, pedagogy and possibility. The volume begins with Tales of the Digital Self. By telling stories we define ourselves. This struggle to understand who and what we are is even more amplified on the Web where identity is almost liquid. The authors in the second section picture how stories will be told in the future. In Pixels of Heroes and Heroines, we reconnect the future of narrative discourse to its literary roots. Although it is important to consider the forms narratives will take in the future, it is equally important to consider how these stories will be taught. This is the issue authors take up in Stories from Wired Desktops. Chapters move into the realm of the political in Views of Techno-Identity and Virtual Spaces. The volume concludes with the chapters in Critical Reflections on Project UNLOC.
