Poetics Of The Pretext written by Roland-François Lack and has been published by University of Exeter Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Literary Criticism categories.
Poetics of the Pretext is an original study of the French poet LautrEamont (1846-1870), who was rediscovered by the Surrealists in the 1920s and promoted to the vanguard of theoretical debate by the 'Telquelists' of the 1960s, but whose work has remained largely ignored or misinterpreted beyond a small circle of enthusiasts. Poetics of the Pretext analyses closely the texts, pretexts and intertexts of this innovative poet, bringing Les Chants de Maldoror and PoEsies to the foreground of contemporary critical debates around poetics, genre, intertextuality and influence. This book will make a major contribution to our understanding not only of the work of LautrEamont but also to the function of originality, imitation and plagiarism in the nineteenth century.

What Is Islam written by Shahab Ahmed and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Religion categories.
A bold new conceptualization of Islam that reflects its contradictions and rich diversity What is Islam? How do we grasp a human and historical phenomenon characterized by such variety and contradiction? What is "Islamic" about Islamic philosophy or Islamic art? Should we speak of Islam or of islams? Should we distinguish the Islamic (the religious) from the Islamicate (the cultural)? Or should we abandon "Islamic" altogether as an analytical term? In What Is Islam?, Shahab Ahmed presents a bold new conceptualization of Islam that challenges dominant understandings grounded in the categories of "religion" and "culture" or those that privilege law and scripture. He argues that these modes of thinking obstruct us from understanding Islam, distorting it, diminishing it, and rendering it incoherent. What Is Islam? formulates a new conceptual language for analyzing Islam. It presents a new paradigm of how Muslims have historically understood divine revelation--one that enables us to understand how and why Muslims through history have embraced values such as exploration, ambiguity, aestheticization, polyvalence, and relativism, as well as practices such as figural art, music, and even wine drinking as Islamic. It also puts forward a new understanding of the historical constitution of Islamic law and its relationship to philosophical ethics and political theory. A book that is certain to provoke debate and significantly alter our understanding of Islam, What Is Islam? reveals how Muslims have historically conceived of and lived with Islam as norms and truths that are at once contradictory yet coherent.

The Islamic Secular written by Sherman A. Jackson and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024 with Religion categories.
This book argues that the meaning of "secular" in the West and in Islam differ fundamentally. Though the Islamic secular is a "liberation" from Islam's sacred law, shari'ah, it is neither outside "religion" nor a rival to it; it seeks neither to discipline nor displace religion nor expand its own jurisdiction at religion's expense. The Islamic Secular is, in Sherman Jackson's view, a complement to religion-in effect, a "religious secular." In this book, Jackson makes the case for the Islamic Secular on the basis of Islam's own pre-modern juristic tradition and shows how the Islamic Secular impacts the relationship between Islam and the modern state, including the Islamic State.

Visions And Re Visions written by Robert M. Philmus and has been published by Liverpool University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10-01 with Social Science categories.
Renowned science fiction scholar Robert M. Philmus offers in Visions and Revisions a fresh and provocative literary analysis of science fiction writing. He critically examines the works of some of the most prominent writers to have written in the genre—including Evgeny Zamiatin, Karel Capek, Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, and Stanislaw Lem, along with English-language authors from H.G. Wells to Ursula Le Guin—and reveals how their works illustrate the fundamental elements of science fiction writing. The former editor of Science Fiction Studies, Philmus casts his expert eye on a diverse range of short stories and novels by the premier arbiters of the craft, with close readings that draw upon the theories of New Criticism as well as post-Modern. Featuring essays such as “Stanislaw Lem’s Futurological Congress as a Metageneric Text,” “Kurt Vonnegut: Historiographer of the Absurd: The Sirens of Titan,” “Ursula K. Le Guin and Time’s Dispossession,” and “Time Out of Joint: The World(s) of Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle,” the volume provides an in-depth textual examination that reveals why science fiction is a “revisionary genre.” Visions and Revisions will be of immense value to scholars of literature and science fiction studies.

Semiotics Principles Problems written by Yiheng Zhao and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-06 with Literary Criticism categories.
This book attempts to build semiotics on a new foundation, which is “meaning-making”. At the very beginning, the central terms of signs and semiotics are redefined, as the old definition for sign (one thing standing for another) is far from satisfactory. Sign is a perception that is regarded as carrying meaning. In this way, semiotics, now built on the foundation of meaning-making and meaning-cognition, is a science of meaning. All the principles are now under the scrutiny of the new definition, and many issues are answered more succinctly. Therefore, the new definition is extended to the new fields of cultural activities in human society, and a series of problems arise. This book intends to discuss and explore these questions, such as the “middle reclining” in the cultural markedness, the sliding of motivation in art, the difficult distinction between falsehood and untruthfulness, and the driving force of modernization in China.
