A Real Time Approach To Process Control written by William Y. Svrcek and has been published by Wiley this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-06-15 with Science categories.
A hands-on teaching and reference text for chemical engineers In writing this book the authors' have focused exclusively on the vast majority of chemical engineering students who need a basic understanding of practical process control for their industrial careers. Traditionally process control has been taught using non-intuitive and highly mathematical techniques (Laplace and frequency-domain techniques). Aside from being difficult to master in a one-semester course, the traditional approach is of limited use for more complex process control problems encountered in the chemical processing industries. When designing and analyzing multi-loop control systems today, industry practitioners employ both steady-state and dynamic simulation-based methodologies. These 'real time' methods have now all but replaced the traditional approach. A Real Time Approach to Process Control provides the student with both a theoretical and practical introduction to this increasingly important approach. Assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, this text introduces all of the applied fundamentals of process control from instrumentation to process dynamics, PID loops and tuning, to distillation, multi-loop and plant-wide control. In addition, students come away with a working knowledge of the three most popular dynamic simulation packages. The text carefully balances theory and practice by offering students readings and lecture materials along with hands-on workshops that provide a 'virtual' process on which to experiment and from which to learn modern, real time control strategy development. Features: * The first and only textbook to use a completely real time approach. * Gives students the opportunity to understand and use HYSYS software. * Carefully designed workshops (tutorials) have been included to allow students to practice and apply the theory. * Includes many worked examples and student problems. Automated Continuous Process Control written by Carlos A. Smith and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08-29 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Automated Continuous Process Control pulls together–in one compact and practical volume–the essentials for understanding, designing, and operating process control systems. This comprehensive guide covers the major elements of process control in a well-defined and ordered framework. Concepts are clearly presented, with minimal reliance on mathematical equations and strong emphasis on practical, real-life examples. Beginning with the very basics of process control, Automated Continuous Process Control builds upon each chapter to help the reader understand and efficiently practice industrial process control. This complete presentation includes: A discussion of processes from a physical point of view Feedback controllers and the workhorse in the industry–the PID controller The concept and implementation of cascade control Ratio, override (or constraint), and selective control Block diagrams and stability Feedforward control Techniques to control processes with long dead times Multivariable process control Applicable for electrical, industrial, chemical, or mechanical engineers, Automated Continuous Process Control offers proven process control guidance that can actually be used in day-to-day operations. The reader will also benefit from the companion CD-ROM, which contains processes that have been successfully used for many years to practice tuning feedback and cascade controllers, as well as designing feedforward controllers.

Practical Process Control introduces process control to engineers and technicians unfamiliar with control techniques, providing an understanding of how to actually apply control in a real industrial environment. It avoids analytical treatment of the numerous statistical process control techniques to concentrate on the practical problems involved. A practical approach is taken, making it relevant in virtually all manufacturing and process industries. There is currently no information readily available to practising engineers or students that discusses the real problems and such material is long overdue. - An indispensable guide for all those involved in process control - Includes equipment specification, troubleshooting, system specification and design - Provided with guidelines of HOW TO and HOW NOT TO install process control

Advanced Process Control written by Cecil L. Smith and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book fills the gap between basic control configurations (Practical Process Control) and model predictive control (MPC). For those loops whose performance has a direct impact on plant economics or product quality, going beyond simple feedback or cascade can improve control performance, or specifically, reduce the variance about the target. However, the effort required to implement such control technology must be offset by increased economic returns from production operations. The economic aspects of the application of the various advanced control technologies are stressed throughout the book.

Practical guidance on how to apply process control fundamentals to solve real-world control problems Practical Process Control Design with Industrial Applications presents process control essentials and control strategy design fundamentals for modern-day DCS work environments. It uses a unique instructional approach—a process analysis and process understanding framework that enables readers to better understand and more effectively use process control fundamentals. Process analysis, operating objectives, and business drivers guide the identification of control objectives and facilitate control strategy designs of realistic control applications for real-world unit operations. Filling a gap in the literature, coverage includes: Merging process analysis, process understanding, and real-world plant operations with process control essentials and design fundamentals Detailed discussion of real-world design issues and realistic process-specific control strategies Methods used to ensure acceptable control performance continues when various “what if” issues arise How process control design fundamentals are applied in important unit-specific control strategies How best to apply specific control attributes (control direction), control options (PID proportional action), standard DCS functionality (algorithms and/or function blocks), and corporate or site standards (input signal validation) to develop control strategies that achieve control objectives with acceptable control performance. Practical Process Control Design with Industrial Applications is an essential reference for control engineers and process engineers who support process control activities in an operating plant, DCS vendor control application specialists, and EPC company project engineers who support process control activities in capital projects.
