Porn Star written by Mark Lamonica and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-26 with Literary Criticism categories.
Porn Star is an engrossing portrait of a man that is credited with being the originator of modern pornography: Pietro Aretino (1492-1556). Aretino was the most famous writer of the sixteenth century, and considered like his contemporary, Niccolo Machaivelli (1469-1527), a literary god in London. In fact, both writers came to symbolize in the minds of Elizabethans: everything devilish about the Italian people; "devils' incarnates" as they were called in Shakespeare's day. Vastly underrated today as a writer, Aretino's time has come--and he is a force to be reckoned with. Playboy, playwright, pornographer, poet, diplomat, shrewd man of affairs. Aretino typified the Renaissance man of action, embodying the mischievous genius of the Italian people. An immensely gifted polymath writer with an encyclopedic range of knowledge, experience and interests. Aretino's deadly "poison pen" aroused violent antagonism, as well as an idolatrous awe amongst his peers in his lifetime. He takes the reader on an unforgettable journey through the Italian Renaissance where we meet many of his illustrious friends, the most colorful people of the period--crazy kings, deviant popes, eccentric artists, beautiful whores, deadly dukes and con men. Aretino's outrageous life culminates in an explosive climax that leads to the destruction of the holiest city in the world, Rome, or as the great religious reformer Martin Luther called it--Babylon. Along the way, Aretino challenges William Shakespeare's title as the world's greatest writer.

The Neo Latin Epigram written by Susanna de Beer and has been published by Universitaire Pers Leuven this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Foreign Language Study categories.
The epigram is certainly one of the most intriguing, while at the same time most elusive, genres of Neo-Latin literature. From the end of the fifteenth century, almost every humanist writer who regarded himself a true "poeta" had composed a respectable number of epigrams. Given our sense of poetical aesthetics, be it idealistic, postidealistic, modern, or postmodern, the epigrammatic genre is difficult to understand. Because of its close ties with the historical and social context, it does not fit any of these aesthetic approaches. By presenting various epigram writers, collections, and subgenres from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century, this volume offers a first step toward a better understanding of some of the features of humanist epigram literature.

“However deeply we immerse ourselves in Luther, we are no closer to exhausting the riches his mind and thought make available to us.” So writes Victor Shepherd in this immensely readable and informative book — which aids in just such an immersion. Shepherd sets the ethos and legacy of Luther’s theology in its theological, religious, and sociopolitical context, tracing Luther’s theological development in chapters on such topics as: -Humanism in the fifteenth century -Freedom in Christ -The Lord’s Supper -Law and Gospel -Church and state -Luther and the Jewish people And all the while, he keeps a careful eye on the implications of applications of Luther’s thought for Christians and churches today.

Edmund Fryde provides a general account of the attempt to revive and surpass the standards of classical historiography and charts its progress. The career of Politian, the librarian of Lorenzo the Magnificent, illustrates the advance in scholarship during the fifteenth century. Using new evidence from the Vatican Library the author demonstrates that Lorenzo's library can be largely reconstructed and that a wealth of manuscripts was already available in his time.

Controversial Poetry 1400 1625 written by and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-11 with Literary Criticism categories.
Controversial poetry played a crucial role in dealing with religious, political, and scholarly conflicts from 1400 until 1625. This volume analyses roles and functions of Latin, Italian, Dutch, German, Scots, and Hungarian poetry in specific historical controversies. A media theory of poetical impact is proposed by Franz-Josef Holznagel and Dieuwke van der Poel. Levente Seláf, Philipp Steinkamp, and Guillaume van Gemert examine the genres sung in wars, and in rulers’ controversies. Judith Keßler, Dirk Coigneau, Juliette Groenland, and Regina Toepfer analyse how female and male rhetoricians and humanists use verse in religious, municipal, and educational conflicts. Signe Rotter-Broman, Samuel Pakucs Willcocks†, and Alasdair A. MacDonald explain how reception strategies can shape cultural and political identities.
