Despite considerable progress in research and practice in the constructive transformation of intractable conflicts beginning in the 1970s, many terribly destructive conflicts have recently erupted. New circumstances have emerged that have resulted in regressions. The contributions in this book examine many of the new challenges and obstacles to the transformation of intractable conflicts. It also offers an array of new and promising opportunities for constructive transformations. The book brings together analyses of U.S.-based conflicts with those from many regions of the world. International, intra-state, and local conflicts are explored, along with those that have been violent and non-violent. The diversity in disciplines among the authors provides a wide range of theoretical approaches to explaining how a variety of intractable conflicts can be transformed. Case studies of local, national, and transnational conflicts serve to illustrate this new landscape. These analyses are complemented by conceptual discussions relating to new conflict systems, actors, dynamics and strategies. Policy implications of findings are also presented.

Conflict Resolution And The Scholarship Of Engagement written by Cheryl Lynn Duckworth and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.
As the field of conflict analysis and resolution continues to grow, scholars and practitioners increasingly recognize that we can learn from one another. Theory must be informed by practice and practice must draw on sound theory. Above and beyond this lies a further recognition: without at least attempting to actually engage and transform entrenched conflicts, our field cannot hope to achieve its potential. We will merely remain in a more diverse, multi-disciplinary ivory tower. This edition breaks new ground in explicitly connecting the Scholarship of Engagement to the work of conflict resolution professionals including those in the academy, those in the field, and those who refuse to choose between the two. The text explores a wide variety of examples of, and thinking on, the Scholarship of Engagement from participatory action research to peace education, and from genocide prevention to community mediation and transitional justice.

This book is a collection of Policy Briefs on the issue of reconstructing economic governance in resource-rich African countries. This is the first book that covers this particular issue. Many researches have been undertaken on the causes of conflict and violence in resource-rich African countries, but the particular point in this book is how to manage the economic affairs in these countries for the benefit of the people and on a long-term and sustainable basis. The term good economic governance is used for this type of management, and we have applied the concept to a number of African countries that are richly endowed with natural resources and have suffered from various forms and intensities of conflict.

Highly regarded by instructors as the most comprehensive and insightful textbook on conflict resolution, Constructive Conflicts has been significantly revised and updated in this second edition. The new edition builds on the strengths of the first, especially its organization around the different stages at which conflicts emerge, escalate, and resolve. Kriesberg's analysis utilizes diverse theoretical perspectives and data and is relevant for strategies that a variety of people can employ to foster constructive struggles. "In this second edition to his highly recommended, leading text-book in conflict and peace studies by peaceful means Professor Kriesberg has included very valuable material on South Africa and apartheid, on the women's and Civil Rights movements in the USA, and the justice and globalization movements. And, above all, on international terrorism and the al Qaeda network. In a dynamic world authors have to be equally dynamic. Professor Kriesberg is one of those." Johan Galtung, professor of peace studies, the University of Hawaii, the University of Witten/Herdecke, the European Peace University, and the University of Tromsoe.
