The area of computer graphics is characterized by rapid evolution. New techniques in hardware and software developments, e. g. , new rendering methods, have led to new ap plications and broader acceptance of graphics in fields such as scientific visualization, multi-media applications, computer aided design, and virtual reality systems. The evolving functionality and the growing complexity of graphics algorithms and sys tems make it more difficult for the application programmer to take full advantage of these systems. Conventional programming methods are no longer suited to manage the increasing complexity, so new programming paradigms and system architectures are re quired. One important step in this direction is the introduction and use of object-oriented methods. Intuition teils us that visible graphical entities are objects, and experience has indeed shown that object-oriented software techniques are quite useful for graphics. The expressiveness of object-oriented languages compared to pure procedurallanguages gives the graphics application programmer much better support when transforming his mental intentions into computer code. Moreover, object-oriented software development is a, weil founded technology, allowing software to be built from reusable and extensible compo nents. This book contains selected, reviewed and thoroughly revised vers ions of papers submit ted to and presented at the Fourth Eurographies Workshops on Object-Oriented Graphics, held on May 9-11, 1994 in Sintra, Portugal.

Now software engineers can learn how to apply the techniques of object-oriented programming to large systems. This book shows how object-oriented programming can be used to develop reusable components, especially for concurrent and distributed systems. Using the DRAGOON Language, (a new language that has evolved from a European research effort), it provides a coherent framework for developing systems which allow for dynamic reconfiguration and fault-tolerance. All the examples in the book can be easily implemented in the Ada language.

The Entity-Relationship Approach is the basis for many database design and system development methodologies. The sixth international conference was organized to bring together researchers and practitioners to share new developments and discuss issues related to the use of the ER approach. Three major themes are addressed in this book: - database development and management - application systems - management of organizational information resources. Abstracts from the keynote addresses, tutorials, vendor presentations and panel sessions are included, along with 25 complete papers. Both theory and practice are addressed.

Annotation Twenty proceedings papers from the June 1997 conference updating the status of computer animation as it moves away from the movie industry and toward interactive media applications. (Imagine walking through your favorite television program.) The contributors supply new technical information that will make the dream come true, presenting work in algorithms and methods in animation such as achieving emotional figure animation, virtual reality and augmented reality including a discussion of the interaction between real and virtual humans, techniques for capturing motion and multimedia interfaces, technical discussions of geometric deformations and behavioral animation, and an outline of animations systems from CASUS to Java. Introduction To Expert Systems written by Peter Jackson and has been published by Addison Wesley Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Computers categories.

In May 1997, IBM's Deeper Blue defeated the world chess champion Gary Kasparov, showing that an artificial intelligence system can outplay even the most skilled of human experts. Since the first expert systems appeared in the late sixties, we have seen three decades of research and development engineer human knowledge to more practical ends, in a pioneering effort that has integrated diverse areas of cognitive and computer science. Today, expert systems exist in many forms, from medical diagnosis to investment analysis and from counseling to production control. This third edition of Peter Jackson's best-selling book updates the technological base of expert systems research and embeds those developments in a wide variety of application areas. The earlier chapters have been refocused to take a more practical approach to the basic topics, while the later chapters introduce new topic areas such as case-based reasoning, connectionist systems and hybrid systems. Results in related areas, such as machine learning and reasoning with uncertainty, are also accorded a thorough treatment. The new edition contains many new examples and exercises, most of which are in CLIPS, a language that combines production rules with object-oriented programming. LISP, PROLOG and C++ are also featured where appropriate. Interesting problems are posed throughout, and are solved in exercises involving the analysis, design and implementation of CLIPS programs. This book will prove useful to a wide readership including general readers, students and teachers, software engineers and researchers. Its modular structure enables readers to follow a pathway most suited to their needs, providing them with an up-to-date account of expert systems technology. Peter Jackson is Director of Research at West Group, a division of The Thomson Corporation and the leading provider of information to the US legal market. Peter drives the application of natural language and information retrieval technologies to the information needs of law and business. Previous appointments include Principal Scientist at the McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in Saint Louis, Missouri, and Lecturer in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
