Almost 200,000 couples in America each year suffer through the tragedy of miscarriage. And that statistic only tells us about first trimester miscarriages. The emotional pain of longer-term miscarriages, and the untold numbers of mothers and fathers who keep silent about their hurt, make this form of child loss especially cruel. But in Silent Grief, author Clara Hinton brings a clear message of hope through the cold mourning. Writing of her own grief, and interviewing scores of women and men, she offers not pat answers, but instead show us this: You are not alone.

Chapter 17 Stay Silent People can misjudge you or look down on you. You can't stop anyone from doing so. You can't expect everyone to know what you're up to because your goal belongs to one person only. That person is you, so don't waste your time telling people what you want to do. Keep your mouth shut and work to achieve your goal. Do we have a deal? Besides, nobody cares, anyway. Why waste your time talking about it? You don't have to tell anyone what you're going to do. Just do it. Be silent if you must, but don't worry. You'll get there one way or another. It's better if you conserve your time and energy for the tasks, meaning that you should spend less time talking and more time doing your job. Agree? People have the rights to judge or underestimate you, but you don't have any rights to do so to yourself. You have to believe in yourself because you're more powerful than you know. To unlock that power, you must keep working and practicing every day until you've found that hidden power. It's the power from within only found through hard work and repetition of practices. Stay silent and work hard every day. The power of silence is far more powerful than you know it. You'll see it when you get there. To get there, you must keep working harder and harder every day. I can't stress that enough. You can live anywhere on this planet and still do what you're dreaming of accomplishing because the world is far more connected than it ever was. If the people from a few generations before us could achieve so many incredible things with little help of the connectivity level that today's world can provide, so will you.

In 1905, the year preceding the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, Iranian women and girls were sold by needy peasants to pay their taxes, or taken as booty in a raid by Turkoman tribesmen against a village settlement in Northeast Iran. The telling and retelling of the event became a focus for outage and grievance, contributing to both popular mobilizations against autocracy and a constitutional regime. Indeed, the narration of this event took all of Iran by storm. Shortly after the opening of a new parliament in 1906, relatives of some of the captive women demanded that the parliament punish those responsible. The newly reconstituted Ministry of Justice investigated the matter and actually tried several people who were alleged to be responsible. In The Story of the Daughters of Quchan, Afsaneh Najambodi investigates what made this incident more powerful. How did a familiar incident of rural destitution and the story of yet another Turkoman raid became a uniquely outrageous story? Although it captured the Iranian national imagination, this event has been all but forgotten. What does this "amnesia" tell us about the political culture or modern Iran, as well as that country's national memory, and about modernist historiography, as well as that country's national memory, and about modernist historiography in general?

THE EXPLOSIVE NEW YORK TIMES AND NATIONAL BESTSELLER Push beyond your physical limits to improve yourself by following bowhunter and ultramarathoner Cameron Hanes's lifelong philosophies and disciplines. “It’s all mental.” I say this all the time, and it’s true. If you believe you can do it, you can. We all have virtually limitless potential. Our bodies are capable of so much more than what we ask of them. Take off the mental handcuffs, get out there, and start on your way today. What is your passion? You can become better at it. Committing yourself to fitness only fuels your beliefs. You gotta believe to achieve. Cameron Hanes discovered his true passion for bowhunting when he was twenty. Inspired by the physical challenges of stalking elk in the Oregon wilderness—traversing mountainous terrain, braving erratic weather, and evading his quarry’s even more dangerous predators—he began an ever-evolving journey of self-improvement. To become the best bowhunter of wild elk, to the caliber he believed he could be, Cam realized he would need more than archery skills. He would need the stamina and strength that could only come from an athletic training regimen of long-distance running and heavy-weight lifting. And every day for more than thirty years, Cam has put in the work, building miles and muscles, pushing through pain with a single-minded focus on the only goal worth having—besting himself time and again. Part memoir, part motivational manifesto, Endure reveals how Cam—a self-professed average guy—put himself through the paces to live the life of an expert bowhunter, respected writer, and family man. With discipline, sacrifice, resilience, a hard work ethic, and a belief in his own capabilities, Cam not only accomplished his dreams but continues to surpass them. There is no secret to his success except relentless determination and loyal dedication to his own self-worth. If Cam can do it, we all can. Everyone has what it takes to endure adversity so we can rise above average, be the best we can be, and enjoy living life to the fullest.
