Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, grade: 1,0, University of Frankfurt (Main), language: English, abstract: We are living in a new media age. Computers, DVDs, CDs and the internet including YouTube, wikis and other websites are a part of many people ́s everyday life. According to the Internet World Stats, about two billion people used the internet in 2012 with North America (78.6% of the population), Australia (67.6%) and Europe (63.2%) leading the way (Internet World Stats). Using New media is natural for the children of our society as they grow up with it. They live in a world where CDs, DVDs, computers and mobile phones are just given. When they first use the internet, they are on average about nine years old (Livingstone, Haddon et al., p.23). As it is so frequently used, it is no wonder that new media has also found its way into today’s classrooms offering great possibilities of learning and communication to teachers and students. At the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt in the winter session 2012/2013, a course was offered, called “New media in teaching semantics” by Professor Manfred Sailer. In this course, his students got to know different types of new media and how those could be used in teaching semantics. Furthermore, they designed online material for a semantics’ introductory course and created an own wiki including podcasts, material for an interactive whiteboard and topic related explanations and tasks. At the moment, Professor Manfred Sailer is working on a book on semantics which is also used in the mentioned introductory course. In this paper, the chapter on “Predicate logic” will be analyzed. Therefore, it will be compared to other books on the same topic and evaluated from the viewpoint of a student having completed both mentioned courses. Furthermore, additional e-learning material will be created for the mentioned book chapter. The advantages of that will be explained.

New Media In The Muslim World written by Dale F. Eickelman and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.
Today's new media - including fax machines, satellite television, and the Internet - and new uses of older media - audio and video cassettes, cinema, pulp fiction, the telephone, and the press - are dramatically reshaping politics and culture in Muslim societies. Exploited by grassroots and other populist groups, new media have fostered pluralism and encouraged the development of new public spheres, new ways of interpreting Islam, and new community networks. Both in Muslim-majority states and elsewhere, "small" and "alternative" media have been closely associated with educated Muslims searching for new directions and identities. New Media in the Muslim World considers the social organisation of communication and the changing social and political landscape in which different media operate throughout the Middle East and beyond. Drawing on a wide variety of topics from Egyptian film, Turkish web sites, and African-American Muslim pamphlets to Bangladeshi "Muslim" bodice-rippers and Indonesian legal reasoning, these lively essays offer fresh perspectives on how Muslims have adapted local and international media to communicate independently from official governments and mainstream religion. Fresh insights on the extent to which today's new media have transcended local and state boundaries and worked to reform notions of gender, authority, justice and politics in Muslim societies emerge from this provocative book.

New media--cable TV, teletext, videodiscs and videotex--threaten the survival of newspapers. The newspaper business also faces important setbacks from within, such as decreasing household penetration, increasing competition, and declining revenue. Patten argues that newspapers must adjust to modern technology in order to maintain their position as the most important news medium. He discusses the risks and advantages of computer-assisted distribution; the role of advertising within the new media; videotex and the restructuring of internal newspaper operations; and the working environment of video and print journalists. He also analyzes the changing technology of news gathering and concludes that newspapers can coexist with the new media. ISBN 08-86729-137-0: $34.95; ISBN 0-86729-143-5 (pbk.): $24.95.
