Looking Over The Fence At Networks written by National Research Council and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-08-29 with Computers categories.

A remarkable creation, the Internet encompasses a diversity of networks, technologies, and organizations. The enormous volume and great variety of data carried over it give it a rich complexity and texture. It has proved difficult to characterize, understand, or model in terms of large-scale behaviors and a detailed understanding of traffic behavior. Moreover, because it is very difficult to prototype new networksâ€"or even new networking ideasâ€"on an interesting scale, data-driven analysis and simulation are vital tools for evaluating proposed additions and changes to its design. Some argue that a vision for the future Internet should be to provide users the quality of experience they seek and to accommodate a diversity of interests. Looking Over the Fence at Networks explores how networking research could overcome the evident obstacles to help achieve this vision for the future and otherwise better understand and improve the Internet. This report stresses looking beyond the current Internet and evolutionary modifications thereof and aims to stimulate fresh thinking within the networking research community.

Research collaboration is a critical enabler for scientific knowledge production and innovation but poses significant challenges, particularly if it is carried out in a distributed and geographically dispersed fashion. Jens-Henrik Soeldner investigates how social research networking sites can help make scientific collaboration in management research more productive and successful. The author builds on a comprehensive literature review and two empirical studies to elucidate how social research networking sites can be leveraged for various research-related tasks.

Networking Research written by Patrick Carmichael and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-16 with Education categories.

The educational world is increasingly dominated by 'network rhetoric'; not only are teachers and learners seen as participants in networks, the availability of low-cost electronic devices, collaborative environments and new forms of data 'born digital' have changed the nature of education research. How can researchers and research-informed practitioners best engage in and with networks and develop effective networking practices? How might networks and networking be conceptualized in order to frame and support their work in and on networks? How do networks relate to existing organizational forms and how might new networking practices emerge? This book draws on extensive research into educational research networks in schools, colleges and informal education settings to explore these questions. Carmichael combines theoretical insights into networks from different disciplinary backgrounds and awareness of technological developments, with the accounts of teachers, researchers, and technologists. He considers how educational research as a field is changing, how individual and collective research capacities might develop, identifies new research approaches and discusses the emerging role of the 'researcher-networker'.

Advances In Social Networking Research written by Salvador Reese and has been published by Nova Science Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Information technology categories.

This book provides current research on social networking. The first chapter presents an application of network analysis to characterize the role of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector as an enabler of knowledge and innovation diffusion across the economy. Chapter Two proposes a novel algorithm for computing the similarity of users in a social network considering their characteristics. Chapter Three addresses both the modeling of information dissemination, especially via epidemics and evolutionary game theoretic techniques, as well as their control via optimal control frameworks and dual optimization techniques. Chapter Four is designed to explore socially networked spaces as an important process within teacher professional development. Social networking enables teachers to access new ideas, to collaborate and to contribute to a shared knowledge, regardless of time and place.

Documents the findings of a workshop held in 2001 to develop a vision for the future of networking (10-20 years out) and to identify needed Fed. networking research to enable that vision. The Workshop was attended by more than 160 leading networking researchers from universities, industry, gov¿t., and laboratories. The participants concluded that industry is not prepared to do the long-term research needed to enable the workshop visions for future networking. Industry is oriented toward near-term development and is currently scaling back the corporate ability to provide networking research. This places increased responsibility on Fed. agencies to fund and conduct the research needed to support the continuing growth of the Internet.

The Hidden Prehistory Of European Research Networking written by Olivier Martin and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-18 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The main purpose of this book, which mostly covers the period 19841993, is about the history of European research networking. In particular, it strives to throw some light on some lesser known, sometimes forgotten, aspects of the European research networking history, as the EARN and EASInet initiatives from IBM but also DEC (EARN/OSI), thanks to operational pan-European networks, which were built during the period 19841990 thus allowing the start of operational European academic and research networking services in a very effective and swift manner. A secondary purpose of this article is to make a critical assessment of the political and technical achievements of the European NRENs and especially those of DANTE, the company set up by these same NRENs to build and operate a pan-European backbone interconnecting their national networking infrastructures as well as establishing international connections to other NRENs worldwide.
