"The post disaster needs assessment (PDNA) assesses the impact of the April 25, 2015 earthquake in Nepal and defines a recovery strategy. In the analysis, damage is defined as the cost to replace durable physical assets (buildings, equipment, facilities, and machinery) that were damaged or destroyed. Loss refers to changes in financial flows due to the temporary absence of infrastructure, increased or new demands (operational costs) due to the disaster, lost revenues, higher expenditures, and the cost of maintaining service provision. In addition to reconstruction costs, recovery needs are identified to build back better and are costed accordingly. Each sector has also examined issues of vulnerability and marginalization, and the need for specific targeting in the implementation of the recovery strategy. The report covers the following sectors: social; productive; infrastructure; and cross-cutting"--Publisher's description.

This book describes the source parameters, faulting mechanism, slip distribution, rupture pattern, and aftershock behaviour of the Nepal Earthquake of 2015. This book sheds light on the damage pattern and the geodetic deformation and past seismicity and geology of the region. It also discusses empirical relations useful for assessing future earthquakes and the possible extent of damages caused by the different intensities, magnitude, and duration of aftershocks. Arguments discussed in the book are applicable not only to the Himalayan region but also for similar geological settings worldwide, helping improve disaster management and mitigation planning. This book is of interest to students, researchers, administrators, and planners engaged in earthquake risk reduction.

Evolving Narratives Of Hazard And Risk written by Louise Bracken and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-21 with Social Science categories.
This book presents a range of academic research and personal reflections on the Gorkha earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015. For the first time, perspectives from geography, disaster risk reduction, cultural heritage protection, archaeology, anthropology, social work, health and emergency response are discussed in a single volume. Contributions are included from practitioners and researchers from Nepal and Durham University in the UK, many of whom were in Nepal at the time of the earthquake. Evolving Narratives of Hazard and Risk explores the event of the earthquake, its consequences and its impacts, to provide a holistic and multi-perspective understanding of this special hazard and its significant ramifications for social, political, economic and cultural aspects of life in Nepal. The book highlights how these multiple perspectives are needed to inform each other in order to develop and shape new ways of thinking and interacting with environmental hazards. This collection of works will be of interest to students and academics of Environment Studies, Human Geography and Environmental Policy, and will be of particular relevance to those involved in risk research and managing risk and hazard events.

This book addresses earthquakes, with a special focus on the Ghorka earthquake, which struck parts of central Nepal in April 2015. Drawing on this disastrous event, it closely examines various aspects of earthquakes in contributions prepared by international experts. The topics covered include: the geological and geophysical background of seismicity; a detailed inventory of the damage done by the earthquake; effective damage prevention through earthquake-safe buildings and settlements; restoration options for world-heritage buildings; strategies for providing technical and medical relief and, lastly, questions associated with public life and economy in a high-risk seismic zone. Combining perspectives from various fields, the book presents the state of the art in all earthquake-related fields and outlines future approaches to risk identification, damage prevention, and disaster management in all parts of society, administration, and politics in Nepal. Beyond the specific disaster in Nepal, the findings presented here will have broader implications for how societies can best deal with disasters.
