Interest in language play and linguistic creativity has increased in recent years, and the topic has been taken up from a variety of perspectives. In this book, disparate approaches to the topic are brought together, demonstrating that a number of phenomena whose similarities might not have been immediately recognized, have an academic home under the umbrella of language play and linguistic creativity. The contributions to this collection illustrate the variety of questions that can be asked regarding the social, cognitive, emotional, political, and cultural mechanisms and significance of innovative linguistic practices and point to new directions of inquiry. Furthermore, the work exemplifies a variety of ways in which this research can be carried out, as well as the range of contexts in which it might be investigated, including second language classrooms, online settings, and workplaces. Taken together, the chapters serve to illustrate the range of work that we will be accepting in the Language Play and Creativity series; viewed individually, each makes a unique contribution to some aspect of our understanding of creative language use.

Play has been part of early childhood programs since the initial kindergarten developed by Friedreich Froebel more than one hundred and fifty years ago. While research shows that most teachers value children's play, they often do not know how to guide that play to make it more educational. Too often, in reflecting the value of child-initiated activities, teachers set the stage for children's play, observe it, but hesitate to intervene in that play. They may fear that to intervene is to create a developmentally inappropriate set of educational practices. However, the lack of intervention may limit the educational outcomes of play. Meanwhile, a large body of research exists on different forms of children's play in educational settings that could inform teachers of young children and help them to improve their practice and support more educational play. Saracho and Spodek bring together much of that research in an accessible volume for early childhood teachers and teacher educators.

Eros Plays written by Jerry Caris Godard and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Literary Collections categories.

Eros plays the unruly bastard in Freud's late metapsychology and the lead essay in this collection. The author establishes his motif by describing the uncanny coming of Eros and its unwelcome persistence in the writings of Sigmund Freud with particular attention to his two major booksóThe Interpretation of Dreams and Civilization and its Discontents. Offering a continuing invocation to Eros, these essays use literary allusions to encourage disorderly ways of thinking about psychology while teasing the related human needs for security, certainty, and control. The author, a psychologist, makes "patriarchy" his "straight man," and in doing so, often finds "self-mockery" to be the play. Contents: Eros Plays; A One Page Explanatory Summary of "Eros Plays"; Testing the Taste of Spit: A Novel Introduction to Psychology; How Firm a Foundation; PsychoBabel-Man's Quest Goes on...Until it Ends; Androgony.
