"This book essays a (not the) Christian theology of migration. The phenomenon of human migration, that is, the movement of people to and settlement-temporary or permanent-in a new area or country, its causes and reasons, and its historical, anthropological, social, political, legal, and cultural dimensions have been widely studied and reasonably well understood, and the next chapter will discuss them in detail. By contrast, theology as an academic discipline seems least capable of illuminating this human phenomenon. It appears to most people outside the church and its educational institutions to be at best an esoteric subject and at worst a convoluted and useless mumbo-jumbo, especially when liberally sprinkled with Greek and Latin phrases. Why not leave the study of migration to scholars in history, sociology, anthropology, economics, politics, and law, who, albeit no less infected with highfalutin language than theologians, do at least try to offer practical policies and effective strategies, either for or against immigration?"-- Provided by publisher.

This second volume of Theaters and Public Sphere in a Global and Digital Society offers several different case studies in their relationship with society. Also here, the focus is the fundamental contribution that artistic and cultural forms bring to social dynamics and how these can consolidate cohabitation and create meaningfullness, in addition to fulfilling economic and regulatory needs. As symbolic forms of collective social practices, artistic and cultural forms weave the meaning of a territory, a context, and a people, but also of the generations who traverse these same cultures. These forms of meaning interact with the social imagery, mediate marginalization, transform barriers into bridges, and are the indispensable tools for any social coexistence and its continuous rethinking in everyday life. Contributors are: Claudio Bernardi, Marco Bernardi, Massimo Bertoldi, Martina Guerinoni, Mara Nerbano, Chiara Pasanisi, Benedetta Pratelli, Roberto Prestigiacomo, Ilaria Riccioni, Daniela Salinas Frigerio, Eleonora Sparano, Emanuele Stochino, Matteo Tamborrino, Tiziana Tesauro, Katia Trifirò, Alessandro Tolomelli, and Andrea Zardi.

Toward Translingual Realities In Composition written by Nancy Bou Ayash and has been published by University Press of Colorado this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-26 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Toward Translingual Realities in Composition is a multiyear critical ethnographic study of first-year writing programs in Lebanon and Washington State—a country where English is not the sole language of instruction and a state in which English is entirely dominant—to examine the multiple and often contradictory natures, forces, and manifestations of language ideologies. The book is a practical, useful way of seriously engaging with alternative ways of thinking, doing, and learning academic English literacies. Translingualism work has concentrated on critiquing monolingual and multilingual notions of language, but it is only beginning to examine translingual enactments in writing programs and classrooms. Focusing on language representations and practices at both the macro and micro levels, author Nancy Bou Ayash places the study and teaching of university-level writing in the context of the globalization and pluralization of English(es) and other languages. Individual chapters feature various studies that Bou Ayash brings together to address how students act as agents in marshaling their language practices and resources and shows a deliberate translingual intervention that complicates and enriches students’ assumptions about language and writing. Her findings about writing programs, instructors, and students are detailed, multidimensional, and complex. A substantial contribution to growing translingual scholarship in the field of composition studies, Toward Translingual Realities in Composition offers insights into how writing teacher-scholars and writing program administrators can more productively intervene in local postmonolingual tensions and contradictions at the level of language representations and practices through actively and persistently reworking the design and enactment of their curricula, pedagogies, assessments, teacher training programs, and campus-wide partnerships.
